I can't say I'm mad if he doesn't re-sign but obviously, if he stays healthy and performs well with another team, that'd probably another story.

Only time will tell.

Likewise.

It was like most people here whining about Nystrom having success in Dallas. He didn't cut it here and I'm glad Dallas worked out for him, after that incident with Taylor Fedun.

Latendresse wasn't healthy the last two years and the Wild brass are worried about his health. As much as I wanted him back, I really don't blame them for this course of action. What can you do.

Same here. I have always argued that we should have qualified him. He could be injured in training camp and never return to the NHL and it would still have been what I would have considered "the right move."

And my opinion won't change either.

Qualify him. If he goes down again, let him go...

First injury was on him. Second injury wasn't on him.

/sigh

Really having issues with Fletcher's decisions lately...

Not many whined about Nystrom. They knew he didn't fit in here.

I agree with their course of action. If he took a lesser deal, then I was all for his return, but maybe he wants a multi-year deal and is hoping another team will give him more on more years. Sorry, not worth the risk in that situation IMO.

I'll be interested in hearing about the details of this negotiation (if it's ever disclosed).

This. Most of us were wishing him well on Twitter and liked to see him succeed.

Just not against the Wild...

It makes you wonder if Gui was actually asking for less or Fletch really didn't want to sign him. Either way, someone is looking bad in that scenario.

Exactly!

I'm still glad he fits well with Dallas.

make a statement, stick to your guns. not holding out much hope, myself, but remember when Veillieux tried to bluff his way to a better contract? Didn't work.

qualifying him would have removed any risk of him asking for a multi-year deal

If a multi-year deal was the issue, they could have taken him to team elected arbitration. That would have guaranteed a 1 year deal.

Well I really hope Bouchard is healthy now, as that cuts out our depth in the case of him not being available.

I've been more active lately but I remember reading a lot of the gameday threads while he was on his hot streak. Since we were the lowest scoring team in the league, I remember some posters saying we could've used his 16 goals. I'm still of the opinion, he wouldn't have done that here but he would've probably had a better season than his only one here.

There were a lot of posters repeatedly whining about Nystrom being let go. Every single time he scored a goal at least 3 people would post about it.

yeah, they typically don't discuss the negotiations in detail. "were close", "went nowhere", "couldn't find a decent middle ground" etc.

I can't imagine Fletcher lowballed him with a league minimum offer, and Gui expected to take less than a qualifying offer so i wonder how far apart they could have been?

No way they would've made it to team elected arbitration as Gui would've signed his QO in an instant. Arbitration is for when they can't agree on a deal.

The Wild obviously wanted him back at less than a QO... which I agree with. My guess is Gui sees a chance for maybe a 2-3yr deal with guaranteed money possibly as much as his QO. With his injury history, guaranteed money for 2-3yrs would be appealing to him.

I wish him well in his endeavors, but am glad the Wild won't be paying that risk. I'm completely indifferent on the situation. He's gone... meh... I didn't expect he'd play a full year anyway. I don't have any faith in his future health.

Thank you. Yeah, that's how I remember it too.

But my opinion about Nystrom is the same with even Leddy. Sure, we got hosed in that deal. But he is no longer apart of the Wild. I don't care how successful Leddy is.

Apply that same thinking to Latendresse this up-coming season. Good luck Gui, and I hope you're really healthy now.

who? i don't remember a lot of that. Honestly. I was one of his biggest fans here but I'm fairly sure I didn't spend a lot of time worrying about losing him to Dallas, so i can't imagine who else might have.

Probably the same people who still ask who we are getting from Dallas in the trade
