Ben Eager Docked $13k in Pay After Breaking Canucks' Camera

According to ESPN:

http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/i...-broken-camera

Quote:
The NHLPA filed a grievance over the Edmonton Oilers docking $13,000 from Ben Eager's pay, multiple sources have confirmed to ESPN.com.

Say what, you say?

Let’s explain.

It all started during a game in Vancouver on Dec. 26 when the Oilers’ tough guy shattered an HD camera in the penalty box, as seen in the video below.

The Canucks informed the Oilers they were on the hook for the $13,000 cost of replacing that camera. The Oilers then turned around and docked Eager’s pay (from his $1 million salary).

At which point the NHLPA took umbrage and, last month, filed a grievance.
Here's the link to the video of him doing it:

I dont see an issue here

Eager should be held accountable for breaking an expensive camera

His meltdown as a Shark last year was embarrassing

Q kept Eager in check and focused on game. It appears he is only coach capable of that so far in Eager's career

Unless it's in your contract that you can be docked pay for such actions, they can't do that and he shouldn't be responsible.

Oilers should pay it, 13K is way less to them than it is Eager.

Your point and shoot does not have anywhere near the quality and capabilities of a broadcast-quality camera. Up until a couple years ago I bought SD cameras for $6,000+. Equivalent HD models cost $10,000+, and even then I wouldn't have the same quality equipment that the networks do.

(And your camera absolutely does not record in true HD resolution either, even if it advertises 1080p. Even my HD B-cameras that go for over a few thousand don't record full HD.)

He shouldn't have broke the camera very true. The camera should not be in certain areas, and if it is in places like a penalty box. Then all NHL penalty boxes should have the camera in a area where it can't be hit by players.

Eager will win this case. If he gets a good attorney he should sue Vancouver. I disagree with docking him the money even though it sounds logical.

My favorite part is the old man all bent out of shape about it and calling the ref over.

Daddy, Daddy he broke the camera and now I won't be seen on TV anymore.

Unless it was something like an sc300 it ain't 13k. Especially if it is lens inclussive....it is a cheaper model. Those cams in the penalty box are cheap....have a fisheye-like view with a crap picture. I am not as well versed in video. But i have 600VR, 300 2.8VR, 200-400VR, 105 macro, 24-70, 2 d3s'', etc. if we are getting in a dick swinging contest. I blow $ on gear too. Difference is I know how to use it too

Vancouver billed the Oilers. Not the meathead

Dude intentionally broke someone else's property in a non-play situation. Not seeing anything wrong with the Oilers making Eager be the one that has to pay for it.

Because you can't just go around docking your employees pay without proper invoices. Also, if the Canucks paid for the camera 3 years ago, who is to say that 13K is it's present value?

No he shouldn't. The Oil employ him. A company employee damages something on the job he's doing it on your dime.

A guy at work recently dropped a 53" box full of plasma televisions. Cost the company over 30k. Would anyone expect the crane operator that makes 70k a year to pay for that?

That is a totally different situation though. Eager had no reason to be touching the camera. He made a conscious decision to damage property. Vandalism is far and away different than accidental damage during transport.

Should Zambrano have to pay for Gatorade coolers? bill maintenance and use amorization anyway there is noway Edmonton should pay.

I can see if he trashed a camera in the teams hotel lobby then yes he should pay. This is nonsense he should be charging them for trying to video him without paying him residuals.

He just lost half his contract... or at least what he should've gotten.

I could hop in a train at work and drive it straight into another one going full speed and I wouldn't be financially liable. I'd be fired and charged criminally, but the railroad couldn't ask me to pay for the damages.

this explanation made the most sense. If they want to charge him for vandalism they can, but Vancouver's cheap _ _ _ insurance should cover the cost.

That's my question, where the **** is Vancouver's insurance? And even if they don't have any, at $150 average a ticket, that's only 87 tickets or .46% of that game's gate...

The city should sue the Canucks for being such choke artists and inspiring riots that destroyed millions in private property.

They said on TSN last night that the main issue is that the Canucks never had any proof that the camera was $13K.

e: I see that's in the article too
