Clinch: Time to sneak some rest for the walking wounded?

We've clinched, but perhaps Torts might take a chance on giving our primary penalty killers a night or two off - one at a time to refresh them for the playoffs. These 4 guys are really, really important to our long term success, especially if we end up playing Cyndy's Crybabys and the NHL refs continue their blind calls.

Boyle - the guy has been battered the last half a month, really blocking some hard shots - was actually shaking on the bench last week. The man deserves a few games off.

Prust - he is a machine - he has earned a few games of rest to heal his wounds.

Girardi - once every two games he seems to block a shot that would fall a man of lesser character. 15 seconds of wincing followed by playing the next shift. Would love to see him get 2-3 games off before the Quarterfinals.

Feds - I would never put down feds after his playoff performance last year, but as one of the elders it looks like he has slowed down this last quarter of the season. A long weekend off might do him wonders.

I wonder if Torts will do this or will he keep the pedal at 100%.

I think there has been a general concern going into the season that the younger guys could get worn out by April. MDZ, Steps, McD, Hags etc.

It's a long NHL season and then the intensity of the playoffs...

But you have to beat the best to be the best and the Rangers are not quite as skilled as some of these other teams. I'm not so sure they can turn it on and off. I think the team as a whole has to try to get on a nice winning streak going into the playoffs if possible. It will be very important that they feel they can beat anyone come playoff time.

That's the problem. If you're serious about finishing first in the east I just don't see how you can sneak any time off for anyone not crippled.

On the other hand, going into the playoffs near crippled and exhausted isn't exactly a master plan either.

Quite the quandary.

I'd hope they would use days between games to rest instead of game days. Surely they must do something like lighter/shorter practices and give the guys the rest of the day to themselves. If we're really trying to aim for 1st in the east, I hate to say it but games are the last thing I want the players being absent from. The Pens are a measly 1 point behind us now and have been on an absolutely reckless tear over the last few months and show zero signs of slowing down with Crosby AND Letang back. We hopefully hit our rough patch and are on the rebound now, the game later today against the Wings will be a real test to what this team can stand up to.

Torts was asked about this in an interview and he basically said that the guys were getting enough rest between games. Players have said that they're doing very little in the way of heavy on-ice practice between games right now. Torts wants to win every game and go into the playoffs with as much momentum as possible.

I think it all depends on how this week plays out for us. If we roll this week, and some of our rivals faulter; we might do some call ups. If its up and down, I think we just continue plugging away.

I think he has to give guys like Prust a night off.

What they need is a 1st round 4 or 5 game series and then 4-5 days off until the 2nd round. That should be where their concentration lies.

I was hoping they would have played a little better down the stretch to be able to rest some players but at this point The Rangers just have to play all out and hold off the Pens

There is such a major difference between 1st & 4th in the conference, that they have no choice but to continue to play

And the Bruin game on April 1st is basically the same price.
wehern you look at it from that perspective, $145 is a bargain.

If they can go, they go, no different then the rest of the year. Game 7 home advantage is nice to have in case you need it. Rangers needed it twice in 94.

only thing i would consider is to give McD and maybe girardi a little less ice time especially if we are blowing out the other team. only problem is we haven't had many blowouts to give our boys some rest.

I want continuity and cohesiveness and you jeopardize that by sitting a guy out for a game or 2 to get healthy and rested.

Give the 4th line guys more than 10 minutes of run a game.

Limit the top producing guys PP time

Keep playing the same guys, just reduce their playing time.

Finally, with the schedule as condensed as it is, and they all knew this in October, if they aren't prepared to do what is necessary to limit external activities in March/April, I'd have a real problem with those guys.

I want the Presidents Trophy and Home Ice throughout. Winning that and the East crown is a pipe dream if we start sitting important guys.

This is a good idea and you mentioned all the right players who could certainly use some time off to rejunvenate.

This is actually a big factor. We don't have ANY blowout games... so limiting ice time hasn't been possible yet. It would be nice to have a 5-1 lead heading into the 3rd once in a while.
