2 players have done that and it was the clubs decision to send them back. You don't leave a playoff team you're apart of, this guys a cry baby punk.
How would it be any different if he was one of those guys who plays the last 20 games of the regular season in the nhl and then doesn't go back down for the ahl playoffs? Noone even blinks because once a guy is good enough to be on the nhl team then playing in the ahl playoffs is just a health risk.
For Omark this is business. He would be a fool to play there and it's no surprise that some people can't see it.
I never thought I'd see an Oiler that was worse in interviews than Ryan Smyth.
All he had to say was "I have an opportunity to play for my country at the wc's and that's what I am going to do. Who knows if I'll ever get the chance again?"
If I had the choice between playing for Team Canada or OKC I would be laughing so hard I wouldn't be able to answer any questions:
Kelly Hrudey: "Who are you going to play for?"
Oi'll say!: "Haaaahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa, I'm not laughing hahahhahahahahahaaaaahahahahaaaa at your hahahahahaha hair hahahahahahaaaaaahahahaa mostly hahahahaahahahaaaaa well now I am hahahah ok now I'm laughing at the question hahahahahahahahaaaaahahaha".
As for Omark, the world can watch him play at the wc's against elite players and only a handful of people can see him play against much lower competition in OKC. All pro hockey players have financial decisions to make and this is an easy one. He's not maing the Oilers so he's auditioning for other teams.
You're missing the point entirely. It's not about his "choice" it's about what the franchise wants him to do, and if he's decided to forgo what the franchise wants from him, he's not going to be part of the franchise.
I understand where Omark is coming from, I really do. But this move shows that he doesn't think team first, and that is really important to our org right now.
For what it's worth Omark looks pretty good on that Smyth-Horcoff line as they can all cycle a bit.
Too bad Renney didn't play this line until the season is basically over. Awesome.
Its easy to play with such great players as Horcoff and Smyth.
They keep it simple and it suits Omark pretty well.

Omark looks to benefit Smyth and Horcoff as much they do with him on that line.
He's a cycle player who can quarterback the offence on that line and give Horcoff/Smyth some easy gimmes in exchange for their hard work. That keeps them involved offensively, especially a guy like Horcoff who needs someone else to spoon fed him offence.
I could've called this in training camp, apparently our coaching staff needed an additional 7 months to have the same realization.
One big question. Didn't Omark make this same quote last year and now he is still playing, so is this not a mistake quote taken from last year and applied again ...today?
Wow! Now the haters coming lose! And whos leading the pack?!
I never mind the kid goes to the worlds, he isnt in our plans(renneys doghouse) and renney is probably in another guys doghouse and is on his way.
I dont like to see what omark can do in the ahl, have seen that already, had hoped to see him play with some players in the Nhl, and maybee we had seen what we got, that hasnt been evaluated yet. Gagner is in his 5th na nhl year and maybee is start to coming true.
If he go to the worlds, the oilers has still the rights if he wants to stay in the Nhl ,and with a good worlds, maybe we got something out in a trade from him in the golfseason. Im pretty sure he decided to stay in na , and take a chance in another teams camp this year. Good luck Linus!
Hopefully MPS can recover from the damage done this year.
Omark is one thing, to be burning top 10 picks ... we just don't have enough depth here to be able to afford wasting draft years like that.
MPS isn't really a coaching thing IMO. It was mostly on him to make the most of his strengths- size and speed. He also didn't drive the net. That's all mental and he clearly had trouble adjusting. As long as he drives the net, he will umprove

What i like most is that the hard work off Horcoff and Smyth does give Omark some extra time and space with the puck wich then he can use to pass/shoot alot easier. Had this line been given a proper chance i could see it having pretty good succes.
Im quite sure this is the last game for Omark this year (with the oilers) and perhaps even forever(tbh i dont want Omark to leave edmonton). I hope he makes it count!
I have to say, I'm pretty torn on this. It's been very obvious that Omark is an emotional guy and has a bit of an entitlement issue, but he's a hell of a lot more skilled than a lot of guys in this league.
And it should be noted that although here in Canada we could give two ****s about the WHC, for some countries across the pond, it's another story. So I don't really fault the guy for wanting to represent his country. But him saying "I play better when I'm happy" is a head-scratcher. You just don't hear that at all.
Whether he's actually trying to burn his bridges or he's just dealing with some issues, I'm hoping for both his and Edmonton's sake that they're able to work this out.
Wow since when does the AHL mean anything to you guys, its the freaking AHL, nobody cares! Were so starved of any success we make a big deal because a player would rather represent his country at the worlds than play second tier hockey.
A team like the Red Wings I bet could do wonders with this kid, our organization has no freaking clue how to develop talent, atleast we can depend on lottery picks for a couple more years , at the most i hope.

yep eberle didnt develop, he was just a lottery pick!
so was petry
red wings would never want omark, puck possession is important, he gives the puck away too much. think with your head not with your heart

Red Wings? You mean the team that leaves guys in the minors until they are sure ready to play for their team? The org that takes character players willing to do whatever it takes in the name of team? A team with a short rope when it comes to giving the puck up? Hilarious
