Best Young Shut Down/Defensive Defenseman?

Who are some?

The obvious is Dylan McIlrath.

Another is Hamonic who just broke into the NHL Full time.

Elaborate? McIrath is a nasty in-your-face player and a good prospect, but he isn't some sort of defensive god.

Basically that defense that , can hit dont really have much offensive ability by can play a good defensive game and be physical, clear the front of the net etc.

Well, if you want to pick someone who's already at the NHL level as a rookie, McDonagh takes the cake. Jared Cowen perhaps, as well. But if we're talking solely in the farm system, I think McIlrath is a good pick.

Brian Dumoulin has turned into a very steady, reliable defenseman at BC. I think it's between him and Schultz for who's the best dman in college hockey. Can't wait to see him signed and playing with Charlotte during the playoffs.

Forgot about Schultz, he's been excellent at Wisconsin

While Schultz has had a great year, he's hardly a shut down/defensive defenseman.

Seth Helgeson and Corbin McPherson. Both have decent size at 6'4 and 6'5. Known for their defensive ability, physical play, and crease clearing habits.

Both are late round picks for the Devils that have been right on schedule in terms of development.

Always been a fan of Helgeson. Was really hoping he was a guy the canes would target.

I guess we kind of got our own version in Mark Alt.

You could look at a guy like Cody Sol (Kitchener rangers). He's big, in your face, scrappy, and this year his offense has really jumped up from years prior.

Also with the coaches polls done you can see who they voted as best defensive defenseman from each CHL league.

One up and coming one who I could see having an impact is Seth Helgeson, any Minnesota fans have a report on him?

*Defensive defenseman. Not "two-way."

My favorite player on the Winterhawks the last two years. Guy is a stud and is gonna be an NHL player for a long time.
