AAAAHHHHHHH! we can kiss the 2nd overall pick goodbye!

Yeah I'm sick and tired of going on these late runs just to destroy our draft position. We need a star, who cares if the team loses five more times this season, not going to change a thing about the playoffs, misewell get a star prospect.

If we go on a late, completely pointless run and end up getting a draft pick that is less than elite I am going to resent this ****ing team so much.

I want an elite forward. It's one of the last missing pieces and in my opinion is likely to be the most elusive if we blow our chance to get one now.

I'd rather see a #1 - 1st pairing defenseman. Someone to pair with Jonas Brodin. That is the missing link. I mean, we have forwards already, don't we? For skilled snipers, there is Zucker, Haula, Lucia and Foucault. For playmakers... Well, Mikael Granlund being obvious but aside from him, we have guys like Zack Phillips coming up as well. As for the grittier guys, well, Charlie Coyle looks like a rock-solid power forward. Then there is Brett Bulmer, who I see as a Stephane Veilleux with hands and higher upside. And these are just examples, there are a lot more coming up the pipelines.

Of course, we have d-men like Scandella, Spurgeon, Prosser (to an extent), Kampfer and Seeler, but... You know. We lack that solid #1 guy.

They are now doing exactly what people here predicted. Winning late games that dont matter and screwing up our DP.

Why is this something we allways do.. ?

What if we had been tanking every of these years we havent made the PO? Top 3 picks every year.

ooooh

Yeah we've got forwards both of playmaker types and sniper types, but we still dont have a pure goal scorer type like a Gaborik or a Stamkos or whatever. Those kinds of players are extremely elusive to find.

And yeah a #1 defensemen would be nice, but defenses can be shored up without a pure #1 guy. How many teams in the league even have a guy like that? We can manage without one as long as our defensemen are solid and I think going forward were looking pretty good in that department.

I want one of Nail, Gal, Grigs. This teams perpetual shortcoming has been shooting and scoring goals and if we really want to turn things around we need to reverse that trend.

In that case, Teuvo Teräväinen could be one we could snatch in picks #5-#9. He's a pure goal scorer, rocketing up the ranks this year and his team schooled FBJ:s team in this year's FEL playoffs. That, and he's been playing against men this year, unlike any of the three you mentioned. Plus he's still 17.

I think he'd compliment Granlund quite well, to be honest.

Not a fan to be honest, nearly all of his goals this year seemed flukey and I have yet to see him show any facet of his game that is dynamic enough to make him a top 10 pick, I could be very wrong as I have not seen any full games of his but if we are outside of the top 5 I take one of the remaining D every single time. He's very young and has no shot of being on this team within the next two years and even if he does develop well I think he will behind a slew of our other prospects, could he be better than Larsson, Phillips, Lucia, Zucker and Haula? Certainly, but why take the risk on a forward when we already have so many that seem to be developing quite well, this organization needs to build its defense right now outside of true dynamic forwards and there will several solid options at D in the top 10.

Of the whole 7 goals he scored this year I could have probably buried 5, rebounds and 3 on 1 goals do not make you a "pure goalscorer" IMO. If there is one prospect in the top 15 this year that busts, my money is on the fin, sorry but that's my opinion, would rather take Maatta than him based on this teams needs.

Unless we get Grigorenko or Yakupov I say go with the D.

EDIT: Though whats the deal with Forsberg? Does he have big upside?

I'd have to say the fact you're listing Foucault in that group really makes a statement about its composition.

RE: Teravainen

I know he's shooting up draft boards. I'm not too familiar with his play, but from what people are saying, there's very little chance he cracks the top 10. If we're picking a forward other than Yak, Grig, or Gal, I want it to be Faksa.

Great scouting report on Dumba. Read it.

Quote:
In all the games I’ve watched this year there has been one draft eligible prospect that has stood out among the rest. As far as the WHL goes, Matt Dumba is the most desirable player that I have seen in this year’s draft class. Throughout this season he has shown more and more glimpses of becoming that complete package defenseman with great character and some physical abilities that you cannot teach a young player. I’ve watched Dumba play 20 or more times this year and have seen him play head to head with other WHL standouts like Griffin Reinhart, Derrick Pouliot, Ryan Murray and others.

Reading that, he reminds me of a combination of Burns and Kronwall. He's got the skating, athleticism, and energy of Burns with the physical game and two-way play of Kronwall.

What I like about him is that he would be a game-changer on defense. While Murray (like Brodin) would be an excellent player to keep the pressure on and minimizing defensive zone time, Dumba could excel at firing up his teammates, leading the rush, making the big hit, or scoring a big goal.

Well, like a lot of us were thinking, Dumba could be a great fit with Brodin if things shook out the right way. That profile makes me more and more excited to want to take him. We could use a guy like that on our team, and it's likely that he'll be there when we pick.

Wild in 4th and 0.04 points behind Toronto. Very likely drafting 4th or 5th.

One benefit of the remaining schedules: Montreal has remaining games against Carolina, Tampa Bay, and Toronto. Also, Toronto has a remaining game against Tampa Bay. That means teams around us are guaranteed to earn a few points. It makes it almost impossible to drop even to 9th (10th is the theoretical worst, but Winnipeg has games against Carolina, Tampa x2, and NYI still).

We have to be in the top-4 to get one of Nail, Gal, Dumba, or Murray. But I just know we are going to be picking 5th and we'll be looking at Grigs or the rest of the Dmen.

We still have 5 games to tank. We probably won't win another one with the schedule we have. Florida is a weak #3 seed compared to the rest of that conference.

A thousand times this. I must admit, after reading about that, Dumba just became my #1 choice of the realistic options in this draft.

Brodin-Dumba line would be amazing to watch, especially as Dumba shoots right and Brodin is a lefty. It would be the perfect match, and a really solid #1 pairing (hopefully) in a few years.

Come to think of it, let's say that our prospects pan out fairly well. Some may reach their ceiling, others may not. This is what I would like to see from Minnesota Wild in 2015:

Bouchard - Granlund - Latendresse
Heatley - Koivu - Setoguchi
Zucker - Phillips - Coyle
Bulmer - Brodziak - Clutterbuck
Powe

Brodin - Dumba
Scandella - Gilbert
Stoner - Spurgeon
Kampfer

Hackett
Harding

An absolute worst case scenario: Winnipeg loses all remaining games except one of the two against Tampa. Montreal wins all games against non-playoff teams, Toronto beats Tampa. Everyone else in the top 10 picture loses all games not against top 10 teams.

Winnipeg - 80 points
Tampa - 79 points
Carolina - 79 points
NYI - 79 points
Montreal - 78 points
Toronto - 77 points
Anaheim - 77 points
Edmonton - 71 points
Columbus - losers

In this scenario, we can win 1 more of our 5 games without losing our lottery pick. Winning 2 games shoots us down to a tie for 5th (we should lose tiebreak [ROW]). With 3 wins we tie for 9th. Finally 4+ wins gets us 10th.

Considering that, it's safe to say we will not be picking 10th (although it is mathematically possible).

At TSN Murray is now down on #10th spot.

This makes me feel abit scared of him.

As for others:

Mark Jankowski is now 23rd ranked in some lists and has 48! goals in 50 games for Stanstead (QP) and a total of 84 Points.

Ceci seems like a good move. 56 points in 61 games at Ottawa (OHL) looks good to me.

Considering Flahr's interest in Galchenyuk, I don't think we pass him up if he's there at 4. Not sure I feel the same about Grigs though.
