2014 Mens Olympic Roster Projections

I know the current mens 2010 tournament hasn't started yet but it has got me thinking for the 2014 tournament. Now I know that NHL player participation is not a sure thing but lets assume they reach an agreement here. These are for all rosters. Let me give Canada's a go.

I think you should add more Centers.

I think Spezza will have a good chance. He will be in his prime. Although it will be tough to crack down the middle.

People have Heatley left off, lol

Sweden- young (especially on defense) but talented. Off the top of my head so probably errors in position and such. Also feel like there's someone I've forgotten.

Henrik Zetterberg - Nicklas Bäckström - Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson
Daniel Sedin - Henrik Sedin - Loui Eriksson
Mattias Tedenby - Patrik Berglund - Johan Franzen
Niclas Bergfors - Jacob Josefson - Patric Hörnqvist

HM: Marcus Johansson, Marcus Krüger, Oscar Möller etc.

Tobias Enström - Niklas Hjalmarsson
Niklas Kronwall - Victor Hedman
Oliver Ekman-Larsson - Erik Karlsson
Adam Larsson

HM: Tim Erixon, Anton Strålman, Alex Edler, Douglas Murray

Henrik Lundqvist
Jacob Markström
Jonas Gustavsson

Certainly the projection on offensive depth is iffy, but I think Sweden's defense and goaltending should be very good. Another top 4 team.

This is probably the most solid Canada roster in the thread except I think Toews will make the forward group for sure.

For Russia I would predict:

Ovechkin - Malkin - Semin
Kovalchuk - Datsyuk - Filatov
Tarasenko - Loktionov - Kabanov
Kulemin - Anisimov - Grachev

Markov - Volchenkov
Kulikov - Nikulin
Voynov - Tyutin
Grebeshkov - Korneev

Varlamov
Bryzgalov
Bobkov

That's mine. Added Carter and Toews to King Canuck's lineup. I think I'll actually like it more in 4 years than I like our 2010 lineup.

I'm not sure how good Heatley and Thornton will be 4 years from now same with Luongo. I didn't realize I chose so many centers but the most talented players play that position. I doubt you could name a winger that is almost a lock for a roster spot, centers are the deepest and most talented. As for Keith I feel it is a one time thing for him. About Cody Hodgson people would have laughed at Bergeron 4 years ago but where is he now, on the olympic squad likely on the first line riding shotgun with Crosby. They are similar types of players and I think Cody coukd be slightly better than Bergeron.

Why would the US be moving Parise to the wing anyway? He is the best Centre the US has right now.

Parise is a winger, generally with Zajac as his center.

Someone tell that to KFAN in Minneapolis then. I thought he was playing Centre, guess I am incorrect.

Team Canada could potentially ice an even better team in 2014 then they ice in 2010.

It's a long way to go but damn that team does look like it could be real good.
