Yeah, that's what we thought in 2010 too... and they lost to the underdogs in the final.

Anyways, I'm so impressed with their passion and willingness to play for their country after the second round. I wish that was the case with Canadian players too.

Yeah i never get sidney crosby or Stamkos for sitting out rather than representing your country..and helping them win gold at any tournament, i mean to be selected to go there, i would be honored if i were in there shoes and selected to go

Russia already 6-0 in the tournament. If they weren't the favorites before, you'd have to assume they are now.

Although the other possibility/concern is does this addition upset the chemistry that's been working for them so far?

yeah i mean god forbid you want some time off after coming back from missing the majority of two seasons with some serious concussion issues rather than playing in a yearly tournament...

I bet a lot of Washington fans wish they had more passion for the Caps and less for mother Russia.

I would not be surprised if this hurts their team at this point.

As long as they don't screw up Malkin's line, that has been spectacular, it's likely only gonna make them stronger.

Think again. Ovechkin at least is on this team every year since at least 2006(And probably even earlier)

Russia hasn't won gold every year, but it has won 2. Ovechkin has been decidedly mediocre in recent tournaments, even before his NHL production dropped.

At least with Ovechkin it's the other way around. Lack of passion is not a problem.

You have to respect it even more with Semin. The guy is going to be a free agent and playoff disappointment or not, he's certain to get a very generous deal - unless he gets seriously injured. So he is taking a bit of a risk here, one a lot of other players have avoided in similar situations.

I am not saying it would have made a difference but as someone who HATES the Rangers, I was sooooo p!ssed off.

Ovechkin wasn't on the team in 2009, the last time the Capitals went to game 7 in the 2nd round. Other than that, he's played for Russia every year since 2004 at the WC.

I still remeber beginning and middle of 90s when none of our NHL star players were playing for the country. That's a kind of pay-off...
