Frolov's departure from LA had absolutely nothing to do with his play, and he looked demoralized as a Ranger. Hopefully he can find that desire again and come back to the NHL at some point. Dude had a unique skill set and excelled in the toughest areas of the ice.

I agree but I think he lost his passion due to his mediocre linemates and inconsistent lines.
He had his best success playing with Craig Conroy and Pavol Demitra. When he started though, his center was Derek Armstrong. Played with Kopitar at times (with various sets of wingers ranging from O'Sullivan to Brown), and in his last couple of seasons he played mostly with Handzus.
Dean Lombardi and Marc Crawford ruined his career. Plain and simple. 2006-2007. 35 goals. Leads team in goal scoring.
2007-2008 after leading the team in scoring he plays 3rd line. Why? What a bad call. Who puts their leading scorer on the third line? He is by far the best puck possession player on the team yet plays 3rd line and is often critiqued by the GM also...??? Maybe Crawford listened too much to Lombardi?
Alexander Frolov though with the right coaching would have been a damn good NHL Player. Perhaps by the time he went to the KHL his confidence was diminished but... I always thought super highly of him... There were only a few NHL players that could contain the puck like him in the offensive zone. Lombardi and Crawford never took advantage of his ability and essentially ruined him and allowed the Kings to play ona anightly basis without using their assets efficiently

This. I think of Fro and I think of the single best puck possession player in the corner I can ever remember. Once he was set up in his office (), you were in for some offensive zone time. Him and Zeus made for quite a force.
...the catch was always okay, now we're set up, what do you do next? WRAPAROUND
It was mentioned few days ago that he makes 330k tax free rubles per day in Avangard ($11k). Though, it doesn't say whether its during the season (8 month) or calendar year. So his salary is in $2.6M-$4M range
Here is article in Russian http://www.sports.ru/hockey/139146362.html
P.S. The funny thing is that he talks in that article that happines is not about money.
Thanks. i guess there was a drop off in value after the knee injury. I would have thought he was getting paid more.
at least you gave us a little glimpse of the article cause I can't read spanish
Who would you rather have come back next year? Hypothetically speaking if you could choose
Penner or Frolov?
Are you serious? Frolov would totally be a Sutter boy for sure... Frolov has abilities that very few have... Being able to carry puck with pressure on him and being able to wear down d matchups just on perimeter possession.
As initially crazy as this may sound, the only player I can think of today that is comparable to Frolov's puck possession ability is Sid.
Jason Allison was of the same mould. Dominant around the perimeter.
Penner is a bluff

I can't think of a bigger talent in recent times that was ruined by a coaching/ management staff more so than frolov.
Frolov on this team now with some extra offensive dimensions would be so money...

Datsyuk says hello.
That said the rest of your post is spot on. I think Frolov was excel in the Sutter's system. Plus he wouldn't need to be relied upon to generate offense like he was under Murray. He could play on the third line and focus on his strengths. Fro was always at his best when he could just focus on playing his game and keeping things simple, and always struggled when he was relied to generate chances. Another thing I've noticed lately is that Sutter seems to understand the players on this team a lot better than Murray did. DS just seems to know which guys he can push hard and call out in the media and which ones he needs to coddle which I think in the case of Frolov would be huge.
