Murphy controls the game and goes end to end a few times a game, but without the puck he's not so good. I prefer Ryan Ellis to him.

Well honestly the Bruins don't need him, but he likely will play there as he has nothing to prove in the OHL anymore, he's dominated the league.
Beaulieu is better defensively than Murphy, he also has much better size that helps him and will help him transition to the NHL. Murphy had to change his game exactly, because his defense isn't up to par, while the rest were.
Where does this assesment come from? How is he not good without without the puck? He makes mental errors, but as I said, so do almost every junior defensemen. His speed and hockey sense allows him to get back to cover most mistakes.
And Beaulieu really isn't better defensively than Murphy. And you're wrong on the second part, Murphy had to change his game because Don Hay and the other assistant coaches (Especially the one, forget his name but he was the one responsible for Murphy being cut from the 2011 Ivan Hlinka despite Murphy being far and away the best player at that camp) wanted Murphy to play a defense first style and they all but neutralized his game. Murphy lost all his edge, offensively and defensively.

Jordan Schmaltz? Have you seen him play this year? Not sure what happened but he has really slid down - way down. To say he's struggling would be putting it too mildly.

I've seen him in the 1st Round in some recent mocks. Can you explain further.
not trolling or anything but has Hamilton regressed that much so he wouldn't make the team this year since the last WJC since a lot of you guys aren't putting him on Team Canada. I'm pretty sure he ain't gonna make the Bruins and maybe advice against him playing for the B's.
Keep in mind i dont watch the OHL on the reg and barely caught any of the WJC last year
We aren't going to beat Canada with offense. We are going to beat them with solid play in all zones. We can't have one or two slackers defensively give up that one goal in a 1-1 game. If McColgan, Gaudreau, and other small player (and the players in general can play solid defense and know how to pass than they deserve to be on the team.
we did beat them with offense. we beat Canada in 2010 with the fastest skating team on the ice. we had one of the more offensively skilled teams we had assembled from the point on down.
I think it is a misconception that you need to have the best defense to win these things...more times then not it turns into some type of a shootout style game where the last man standing wins.
I am not saying just throw all offensive players out there, and look up my team on the International Tournament board and you will see a lot of beef in my lineup...but in a tournament like this, having shifty, gritty, offensive players can make the difference for you.
this years US team should have achieved so much more, and they did have some smaller forwards, but the players we can go to battle with next year are a bit more highend/gritty imo : Gaudreau, McColgan, Grimaldi, Trocheck, etc

I agree that if they are hard working, gritty, good at defense and don't make stupid plays than get them on the team. Height doesn't matter that much(except in Grimaldi's case).

for me, at this level the WHEELS are the most important trait. I dont care about a players height or weight per se, as long as they are shifty, gritty, and extremely fast. That is Trocheck, Gaudreau, and Grimaldi to a T. McColgan isnt that fast, but the kid is a lot grittier then people give credit for..

build a team like the 2010 squad as long as you have the talent to do so.
a team mixed of CHL/NCAA players, and a solid mix not just a few CHLers. the 2010 team almost had double digit US kids from the CHL...that helped imo.
you also have to have a tough and fast team (easy for me to say), but you need guys that can create offense and others that can hammer players through the boards. we had that mix in 2010 with our tougher players McRae, Walker, Jenks, and even Morin who was crunching people out there...mixed with Kristo, Schroeder, Johnson, and Kreider who were just flying out there.
I would model every team to that 2010 team if I could. I think the US failed to mix it up like that this year, and by next year they really wont have a choice with all our CHL American talent now.
I don't know much about the WJC. The Summer Camp is in August? Skjei will get an invite at least; same with Biggs.
ANd to the roster by Weiss, there are a lot of tiny forwards there that don't play the best defense.
I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. The only small players I would even begin to entertain arguments with that are small and are weak defensively are Trocheck, Grimaldi, and Gaudreau. Trocheck or Grimaldi would likely play a wing on this team anyway.

yeah i saw your list but i was thinking more of other peoples lists for team Canada, most of them don't have Hunter on their lists. I was just wondering why because he amazes each and every time i watch him play.
Especially now with his relationship with Yakupov and Igor Larionov.
I suppose anything can happen, but he has publically stated (again) very recently that he would represent the U.S. in international competion. There is obviously a history there (Ivan Hlinka) and as far as I know Russia doesn't appear to have made any effort to bring him in the fold. As for the Larionov angle, it's been said that he's urged him (for professional reasons) to play of the U.S.
