ok the key here seems to be the poll is about who we want them to take rather than we who think they will take. Based on that I am voting for Collberg. His offensive upside is incredible and while we do have a good deal of winger prospects right now I think his skillset is too good to pass up. The explosive skating combined with great hands and elite wrister sounds alot like Marian Gaborik to me. My 2nd choice would be Ceci. He seems like a fairly safe guy to be an nhl player but his blend of size mobility and a bomb of a shot gives him fairly good upside as well.
If we were voting on who we think they will take my 1st choice would be Ceci and 2nd could be Gaunce.
Good question. I think itd be better if it were public so we can see who the stars fans are voting for and whether or not outsiders are messing with the poll.
Bummer to see the run on Centers, which I am kind of dreading come the actual draft...
What happened in this one is probably the worst case scenario for us. Buffalo seemed pretty torn on Gaunce or Girgensons and it was extremely close, but I'm not a big fan of Gaunce. I know a guy who's a Belleville scout, and he doesn't think he'll amount to much more than a 3rd line center.
I don't know if I'd want to trade down, though, unless we can get a good deal.
Previous regimes have a dreadful record in trading down. Either trade up a little bit or take the best player. There are supposed to be many top end D, so grab one of them I guess.

Yeah, I took Collberg as well. Regardless of whether he's a center or not the system needs high-end offensive skill at the forward position and that's Collberg.

Yeah it would be great to get a center but not at the expense of a dynamic talent like Collberg. I also feel like there are several potential 2nd line centers (maidens in particular) who may be available with our second round pick so theres no reason to zero in on a center at 13.
If you look at Bob McKenzies midterm rankings youll see the top 11 on his list have gone in the top 12 of this mock. The 12th player being Teuvo Teravainan who was ranked 28th at that point. I expect those 12 will probably be the top 12 in his final list as well.

The teams never pick the guys you think they're going to after the first few, and by the time you get to 13 there's been at least a deviation or two, maybe a reach or two. Point is, I have no idea who will be available at 13, I'm more afraid about one of the worst first round draft pickers in the league and what they'll do. The Stars can and have screwed themselves with or without a run of bad luck.

I'm really counting on Maatta going 11th and Faksa going 12th. Top 10 are the same players, order doesn't matter for us.

I agree the top 12 picks are not likely to be these exact 12 guys. Maybe 11 of them, but 12 is very very unlikely. Someone always falls.

How much of our team is made up of solid players taken after the 1st round? You just don't limit your options.
If you've got a hard-on for a certain player because you think he's the cat's meow and plays a position of need within the organization then you do what it takes to move up and get him. Otherwise trust your scouts and take the best talent with the best chance to succeed. For all the dung I've flung in the Stars' direction about drafting a goaltender in the 1st round I at least respect that they drafted the player they thought was the best talent.

That's the thing, I don't see what's so special about Collberg. He doesn't stand out to me, and is at best equal with Ceci and Määttä. I probably should've clarified that earlier, though.
I guess there's just something I'm missing with Collberg.
If the top 12 goes as it does my preference would be to trade down 6-7 spots and draft Tomas Hertl. I really like him as a complete player who can play wing or centre.
Hopefully Joe would be savvy enough to get some valuable assets from the trade down.
If we stand pat then IMO take the best offensive player...Collberg.
Im not as high on Maata and Ceci as others are, I think we can get a similair talent in a seemingly stronger defensive draft with our 40's picks. There will be luck involved to get a stud offensive player (1st line potential i mean) picking later than the 1st round.
