That is the one thing all Leafs fans have in common. You are the one who came on with the insulting Leafs fans worldwide hyperbole. Making it sound like it's somewhere up there with like not supporting the troops in a war. You are definitely good for a laugh though.

We'd all like to play god in fantasy world and pull the strings to get the best drafting position possible for the Leafs, but in the real world, what exactly should the Leafs do to guarantee that? Because you can't make players not try, you can't make coaches not coach to try to win, and you can't call up a bunch of scrubs.

But you can always finish 9th. How does playing God for 9th work out?

You can and it has been done before. Teams have tanked many times. You don't need the help of God for that.

You still haven't provided concrete answers about what the Leafs should or can do to tank, and which teams have tanked in the cap era and how they went about it.

They were tanking just fine.
Ashton more ice time. Throw in Scott or Muller.
Other teams tank with young players.

Leafs keep buying enough mediocre veterans to keep them mediocre.

I cannot believe you need concrete evidence for a hockey game. We are not searching for aliens.

I see no concrete evidence, and I think you're talking out of your hat. But for the sake of argument, let's suppose the Leafs do what you say but the team ends up winning enough games to finish in, oh I don't know, 9th place. What then?

usually when teams know there eliminated they start to elevate the younger players ice times as well as giving there 4th line a little more time and bringing down the ice times of there vets, aswell giving there backups more games not really that hard. this also helps long term giving young guys more ice usually helps them improve, someone like Ashton shouldn't be getting < 2 mins a game he should be up there with Kadri and Grabo imo playing 15-18 minutes a night.

as for teams who have tanked try edmonton, they basically have stayed away from the UFA market and trades and simply played the kids which is almost always a recipe for disaster in the NHL.

Then the insanity continues..........

Unlike Edmonton or some other team we can afford to spend more money to bring in supporting cast to the stud drafts if we finished low. But the leafs keep signing those players a little too early. Hence, just good enough not to draft a stud and bad enough not to make it in the playoffs.

That definition of a tank involves a whole season(s), not, for example, what Pittsburgh did down the stretch of the 83-84 season to guarantee finishing worse than New Jersey in order to pick Mario Lemieux.

And for the Leafs to do what Edmonton did would mean changing philosophies, which would mean a new G.M. (because Burke would never go along with that) and a willing board of governors. Anything is possible, but I just don't see that ever happening under MLSE.

You gotta admit that might produce some interesting results.
