I can manage Carle at a home team discount. We need a puck mover; we also need to not spend 5 mil on Carle though.

I'm telling you, guys... Ville Leino situation from last offseason. Homer and Carle will say the right things all the way up until July 1st. Then some team will offer Carle $5M per season and he'll bolt.

Carle needs to work on his shot in the offseason if he comes back. Pretty sad that opposing teams feared our D men at the points like they fear an ant.

I still think Detroit goes after him and he'll be hard pressed to turn down the money but I'm sure he likes it here.

The problem is that even if he takes 4M/year, that basically ends our offseason. Returning the same team, even with the expected growth of our young forwards, doesn't get us where we want to be.

To me, I look at the unlikely options of Suter and Schultz... if I fail (likely) I'm more inclined to sign a veteran D-man for a year or 2 than I am to offer Matt Carle a multi-year deal at 4+.

Agreed. If he wanted a significant raise I would've driven him to the airport myself.

I think we're too hard on Carle. He's soft in the defensive zone and makes mistakes but he's a solid player especially for the type of game we play. Needs to work on his game though, definitely.

If Carle gets > $4.25mil I'll be upset, especially if we continue to have guys like Shelley and Lilja eating up $2mil of cap space.

I think the Flyers try to trade for Weber this off season. When Suter leaves, will Weber want to stay? Nashville was in a bad spot last year when they couldn't get Weber to resign long term and the team was so good at the trade deadline. They could end up losing both for nothing. I think Weber and Suter's rights are traded this off season.

If the cap is $69 million next season, I see the Flyers placing Pronger on LTIR, signing Carle and signing Suter or Weber. They let Jagr go and look to trade JVR.

Pronger is done for, I don't see him coming back. And I said it before, if he does come back, and what risk should he? He's one more head injury to the head to being done for good. His game is physical, he won't avoid getting knocked around. We've seen how concussions can degrade and break down a player mentally and physically. Cases like Boogard, Rypien and Belak.. It's sad. He has proved himself and set a name for himself in NHL. Would I love for him to comeback? Absolutely, but let's not forget that hockey players have a life outside of hockey.

He can't retire now for obvious reasons, but he's more or less done for, his progress doesn't support his case of coming back.

He said exactly what a GM has to say to save face regarding an impending UFA. Homer said the same thing about Martin Biron and Ville Leino, and look what happened.

I still dont think Carle will be back

Didnt homer say half this **** last season. Leino wants to come back and the number isnt a problem and homer will "tinker" with the roster. Theres no way we go in with the same team next season

I wouldn't keep Carle for a bag of pucks and an AHL-lifer.

Seriously.

There have to be d-men out there just slightly better than him for cheaper. His offensive upside...fine, he can get assists but for an offensive-defenseman, he has NO shot and almost never hits the net.

Carle needs to go, I see him leaving as addition by subtraction.

For late arrivals looking for a review, Sam @ the Inq. has an article posted:

Quote:
Here are some of them:

** Jaromir Jagr was given several chances to say he wanted to return to the Flyers. He did not bite. It appears he will test the FA market.

** GM Paul Holmgren expects to re-sign defenseman Matt Carle, a potential free agent, at a below-market price.

** Ilya Bryzgalov, with a year of playing in Philly behind him, will be a much better goalie next season, Holmgren said. In a good-natured tone, Holmgren said Bryzgalov’s duties weren’t performing for “Comedy Central” but stopping the puck.

** Holmgren said Chris Pronger is "the same," meaning he still has concussion symptoms. The GM added he was a "glass half-full" guy and still believed Pronger would play next season. Out of respect to Pronger, he will not even think about naming a new captain (Claude Giroux appears to be the leading candidate) at this point.

** Holmgren said he would have injury updates later tonight. Speculation is that Kimmo Timonen, Nick Grossmann and JVR will need surgery.

** By the GM's estimate, the cap will rise from $64.3 million to around $69 million.

Carle needs to go. Period, full stop. Enough moving the puck to the wrong team, passing across the crease when pressured, limp wristed shots on net. Let someone else blow the bank on him, and get someone more competent.

I wish we could lose Lilja too, but I know that's not possible.

I am fairly certain i can't start polls...can someone make one to get the feel of Flyers' fans opinions on wanting to keep Carle.

I am told the Carle debate is very split - a lot of fans really like him and want to keep him and a lot realllllly dislike him. I don't think I've ever spoken to any that like him so I am curious to get a feel for who hopes he stays and who hopes he goes.
