Haven't read the thread, but im assuming someone has mentioned how Krug wears the same number as Kampfer, looks like Kampfer and plays a similar style as Kampfer? Just saying.
Also, Chiarelli doesnt acquire all of these guys to one day be a mainstay on the PP for the next 15 years. He acquires them for depth, depth and more depth. Sure, I bet he hopes they turn into the next Duncan Keith, but does he really have high expectations for undrafted FAs? I know theres a number of them who have done well, but some need to temper their expectations a lot.
This situation mirrors the Kampfer situation in many ways. I'm not saying this kid wont be an NHL defesnman, or that he didnt play well last night (he did), but Chiarelli acquires these guys for DEPTH and to be able to make trades like the Kampfer for Zanon trade.
I completely agree especially with the bolded. As good and as natural as Krug looked, I really don't really see him ever making the team permanently. He'll basically play the role of Kampfer and probably be the first call-up in an injury situation and ultimately probably be a piece in a trade for more depth at a position that we need depth in (as per your example).
With Hamilton likely making the team next year and with a solid core of D around him, I don't see many if any spots opening up for Krug.
And this is nothing against the kid. I really liked his game last night. He didn't once look out of place. But I think this was Chiarelli acquiring a poker chip to use in the future.
Krug overall was "soft". I don't see him either getting far with the Bruins team.
Our core, of Chara, Boychuk, Ference, Mcquaid and Seidenberg won't go anywhere for at least the next two years. The one spot remaining is for Hamilton, if not for next season definitely the season after that.
I would rather try hard to keep Zanon for another year to give hamilton time
What describes him as "soft?" His relative lack of size? His skill-oriented game? The fact that he didn't commit multiple manslaughters in his pro debut?

Coming from a cat who spent a great deal of time humping Steve Kampfer's leg, this is especially humorous...
I didn't see a lot of Krug, but I did like how confident he seemed with the puck in his first NHL game. Hell, his first ever PROFESSIONAL game. Too early to tell either way (of course)... But he played a better game last night than (say) Bartkowski has in Boston. Faint praise perhaps, but certainly promising when it comes to attempting to gauge his place on the B's defense prospect lists.
Guess Im in the minority once again. Thought Krug showed a lot of skill. Id personally play him over a couple of the B's current d for a few more games. To me, he made very little mistakes and showed a crap ton of talent/upside. He moved the puck as well as I've seen anyone on this team.
I also understand its far to early to tell, so ill patiently await him to prove me right.

This is the minority opinion? I thought he looked good too.
Krug is an inexperienced Corvo with less size and strength. I would give it 5 games during the real regular season before everyone here would be calling him a bum and screaming that Chiarelli needs to shore up the defense.
Good depth pickup though. Excellent trade bait for better rentals in 2014. I like it.

I agree with you guys. Krug was never mentioned by the media folks during the game as anything but nervous. Corvo on the other hand no matter how many minutes he is limited to is steadily making bad passes/ decisions.
Its too early to anoint him a regular but he's the first D man I can recall looking so composed in his very first game.
Just a side note: I absolutely love what this Zanon guy brings to the table. Reminds me of Siedenberg Lite for a lot less $ towards the cap.
What are everyones feelings on re-signing him?
Markus in Mineville.

Not to nitpick, Rocket, but Ference's contract is up after next year. Its not too soon to start planning. No doubt Hamilton will get a shot next year since he has nothing more to gain at Niagara. Krug, after a season in Providence could be ready, along with Tommy Cross, to challenge for a spot in 13 - 14.
Didn't catch the whole game but, from what I saw, once again great puck movement from Krug.
Savard the last guy on this team that moved the puck so quick... very refreshing to see especially from the backend which is where I feel we are slightly lacking in that regard. In general, just too much hesitation from our D.
I hope the kid can be Enstrom-like for us in a couple years.
I'd rather have a smaller guy (whose skating is flawless) and plays big than a big guy (i.e. Valabik) who plays small and whose skating as though his blades are dull. IMHO in a couple of years we'll be wondering how we got along without Mr. Krug!
Only a small 2 game sample but Krug looked more poised and just plain better than the other depth defensemen called up to play in Boston this season-- Kampfer, Bartkowski and Bodnarchuk.

So, can we pencil Alan in for a NHL Krug sighting next season with the big boys??? Along with Khubodin who is clearly NHL ready after his outing too
Just razzing ya Alan, liked the tools Krug brings, just will need some work in the D zone to get used to the speed/size of the NHL game
Krug looked very poised- overall heckofa game; Boston front office really wanted this kid and they are starting to look like some of them might know enough to post here
