I must have a death wish; I know this would never happen.
NYR fans please refrain from Parise and Nash arguments as to why trade would not/should not happen.
To NYR John Taveres
To NYI Michael Del Zotto, Dylan McIlrath, Derek Stepan;
Reasons:
from NYR standpoint it's pretty obvious what JT would bring dropped in between Callahan and Dubinsky; With Sauer fully recovered next year, Staal with a summer to rebuild his strength and Erixson taking DZ's spot NYR defense should be fine;
NYI are not making playoffs with or without JT in next few years, they need good players. Stepan, while no JT eases sting a little bit; DZ steps in as one of your top Dmen and McIlrath is 1 year away from being NHL ready and is projected to be a rugged stay at home Dman; this also allows NYI to use their #1 to bolster either O or D; all of the acquired players are young, talanted and can grow with the core NYI are developing

Yes,the many trades in the past 40 yrs between these two franchises,shows what good trade partners they are,what a good relationship exists between the franchises

Add Kreider, McDonaugh, Erixon and Callahan. JT is a franchise player that likes the Isles. he is untouchable. If he's goin anywhere its Toronto.

Setting aside the obvious, and respecting your OP desire to equate the proposal, it is hard to say.
Tavares is a top overall, and while still inching towards the elite of the league, gives no reason to think he won't knock on that door at some point, although that is still cart before the horse.
The ? for Rangers is if this is the best package for them that they offer which is still too good for Isles to pass up. Not sure it is.
Also, if you're gonna spend those type of assets, do you want to go all out for a comprehensive great player, like Tavares?
Or do you want a similar offer for a sniper specialist like Hall, or Stastny, or Radulov?
Your offer deserves more thought, but those are my first impressions for now.
