Where does Justin Schultz sign? [MOD: All Schultz Talk]
“We talked about playing pro together,” said Gardiner. ”People always asked us about playing on the same pro team, our answer was always were not there yet. We definately talked about it though because we’re really good friends.”
b) is either a team on the rise or a team that is a perennial playoff team
d) Has quality Defensive vets that would provide a guiding hand
e) Good development coaching (strong development track record)
Not going to consider dead last up to 2nd to last in an entire calendar year as a 'team on the rise'. No offense.
They're 28th as of right now. That's a 200% increase. How much more can you ask for? That's 90% MORE than the proverbial 110%... geez

They are good friends & former teammates. I was never arguing that point.
Rangers, with Sauer's status still up in the air, they don't know if he will ever play again which will suck and with McDonagh and Stepans ties with Schultz(they all played together in college) I think they can talk him into coming here.
I can still see it, but if he were he would of done it already.
While that's my suspicion as well, it could be that he wants to play his senior year or some other tie that's kept him from leaving; however improbable that may seem. As a Ducks fan, I've stopped caring about whether he'll sign with us, and just want to hear something definitive.

Don't see the advantage or appeal of playing out his senior year.
Once you sign a pro sports contract university is free anyways if you ever want to go back for whatever reason.

I'm at the same point too. As most local Canucks fans have a thing for BC born hockey players coming home. Through out the years we've wanted players like Sakic and Niedermayer. Now it's players like Weber, Garrison, Schultz, Kane... Some have come to fruition others have not.

I don't think its so much as a hometown kid thing it is as we have a huge need for a RH PMD and absolutely nobody in the system projecting as such.

I don't either, but maybe he has a strong attachment to playing in college. It happens with some players. We see it from time to time. Prestige is a major factor for some collegiate athletes. I'm not saying that is what's likely happening, just that it's a possibility, however remote.
Connaughton is left-handed. The only right-handed defenseman prospects in the Canucks system are Tanev, Corrado, Hanney & Price. I would be surprised if the last 3 are ever more than a 6-7 defenseman in the NHL.
The Wild certainly don't have "defensive vets," but I think they can be considered a team on the rise if you look at it outside of a vacuum. In a vacuum, they're bottom 5 team in the NHL. But in reality, they were riddled with injuries this year to key players, they were adjusting to a new coach and system, and they actually looked like a playoff contending team for a good chunk of games when healthy. But the bigger picture for the Wild in terms of why it would be an alluring place to explore for Schultz is the infusion of young talent that is coming down the pipe for the Wild. Coyle, Granlund, Zucker, Brodin, etc are all going to be starting their pro careers in the next year most likely.
The bigger picture here though: Where is the outrage over Schultz not signing with the Ducks a la Blake Wheeler? Wheeler still gets called a "bad character" guy for what he did, and isn't Schultz doing exactly the same thing here? Someone explain me what's different with this situation.
Gilbert has been in the league a while, and, uh, Stoner plays sometimes. But yeah, not much else. That's why I interperet it VERY loosely.
Gardiner clearly misses his best friend. He goes to the movies by himself and stuff (said so in an interview). I bet he can't wait for Schultz to sign here for next year.

I remember Naslund and Forsberg talking about it too, back in the day... Way to tease, Forsberg... Way to tease...

I think there's a country song in there, somewhere...
