Snow like mobile, strong skating blueliners. In 2008,he tried trading up to draft any one of Doughty ,Bogo or Pietrango. When the teams sitting at 1-3 passed on his offers ,he traded down from 5th overall, refusing to use a high pick on Schenn.

Yea, he must absoultely love Staois, because you know, he's mobile, and a strong skater.
Not a guarantee that he's dealt this summer, but its a possibility. Lombardi himself talked to a team about him after the Carter trade. Word got out, multiple GM's started calling and that's why his name popped up on the rumour list just before the deadline.
Lombardi then had to back peddle, and say he's not available.
At some point LA will not be able to afford all of Kopitar, Richards, Carter, Doughty, Quick and Brown.
Brown and Quick are the only two on that list not signed long term. Brown will need a raise in a couple seasons. Quick will be in line for a monster raise next summer. Who's more expendable?
LA actually can, The cap goes up every year.
LA has close to 11 Million coming off the books with only two roster spots to fill. Quick will get his extension next year, Brown has already taken one pay cut (his second contract) to be a team guy).
Pretty sure Brown is not going to ask for more than 5 Million(his contract doesn't end till 13-14 anyway). The year after next, LA only has one RFA that might make big bucks, Slava Voinov. LA is fine cap wise.
Brown was never going to be moved, unless Nash was coming the other way. Lombardi does this sometimes to motivate guys. Sure worked for Brown.
Regardless, you don't move a core player cause you might have cap problems a few years down the road. There are plenty of plugs on the Kings making more than Brown, and not producing what he does.

the aging Staios was signed because the isles knew Cal De Haan,Donovan and Ness all needed a full season in the AHL.All three ahl rookies, are pmd.All are strong skaters.
2012 1st + L. Schenn + MacArthur
FOR
CBJ 1st overall 2013 + 2012 LAK 1st
why? CBJ can draft Yakupov and Galchenyuk + get a 2nd/3rd line winger and a young Dman to pair with Johnson .. Leafs could get a shot at a top 3ish 2013 pick (which is a better draft) .. possibly land MacKinnon; LAK 1st could land us Vasilevski/Subban
before you guys say that this trade sets us back; it doesnt. whoever we select with CBJ '13 pick will be ready to play in the N... Galchenyuk/Forsberg or whoever is available where we pick this year will take a year to develop (so they will both play in '14)
Schenn + Mac are pretty easily replaced imo ... Holzer + Kadri are ready
we could have 2 excellent picks in the '13 draft which is probably the best since '03

First i completely agree with getting as many 2013 picks as we can
Problem is there is no guarantee the Jackets finish last next year....
What if there pick ends up 4th or higher.... Then u just gave up Schenn + Mac for a mid 1st in a weak draft and the other picks cancel out.

By the deadline we should do:
Trade MacA for late 2013 first
Schenn for 2013 top 10 first. (this is if he does not improve his game)
Dion Phaneuf for 2013 top 10 first. (If we get schultz)
Connolly for a late 1st or 2nd round.
Lupul - Galchenyuk - Kessel
Kulemin - Grabo - Kadri
Frattin - Bozak - Ashton/FA
Ross - Steckel - Brown
We'll have 3 first rounders in 2013. 2 of them will be very high and the other will be late. We will obviously add someone in FA this summer and probably will find a way to dump lombardi,armstrong/komisarek.
if Burke wants a #1 centre he might have his opportunity this offseason with Colorado. Both Duchene and O'Reilly are RFA's. He might be able to pry one of Duchene or Stastny out of there

I don't like it. Too risky and I'm not a fan of drafting a goaltender in the first round.
Columbus could do much better than expected. Look at the Sens this season. I'm not comparing Ottawa to Columbus but many people had them finishing bottom 5 before the season.

Statsny is not a No1 C and with the extra $$ and assets required to obtain him, he's not much of an upgrade over the existing Bozak/Grabo top6.
So I've been doing some thinking about this whole 'starting goalie' problem we have... and something occurred to me.
People have been saying that Josh Harding is a backup goaltender... of course, his current role is a backup, because he's playing behind Backstrom. But is he more talented than we know? Let's look at his history.
He's never been a starter in the NHL... this we know. However, what I didn't realize was that he came into the league the same year Backstrom did (2006/2007). This means Im' about to make a statement based on this fact, and the handful of games I've watched.
Josh Harding could very well be a starting goalie. His numbers are good year over year, based on his limited exposure and the quality of team he has in front of him. If the task is to overcome Niklas Backstrom in his prime from the day you enter the league, 2/3 of the goalies in this league would still be backups behind him.
If I'm Burke, he's the guy I go hard for on July 1st if we can't get an established #1 veteran before then. It's all calculated risk, but this guy looks like a guy who could legitimately run with the opportunity to play 55-60 games.
