Now that the regular season is over...the Jagr threads

There were a lot of predictions as far as what Jagr's production would be like. There was quite a bit of variance, which led to some heated Jagr discussion. So much so, that we had 3 editions of the thread.

I thought I'd bump the threads for a look back.

Jagr Thread 1
Jagr Thread 2
Jagr Thread 3

I decided to sift through for my own prediction:

Quote:
I think I'm feeling 29 goals, 36 assists, for 65 points. I think he's gonna be very, very good.
I was a bit high. Jagr finished with 19 goals and 54 points.

And Bill Meltzer tweets:
Quote:
Flyers brought in Jagr hoping to replace Ville Leino's 19 goals, 53 points last season. They got 19 goals, 54 points from Jagr in RS.

I hope this is consistent with what I said over the summer, but replacing Ville Leino's production is exactly what was realistically expected, and it's what we got.

Beyond that:

-He did it in less games than Leino played last year.
-Leino didn't even have half as many points this year.
-Jagr has been a great influence off the ice, which has been a bonus if not a surprise.
-We completely trolled the Penguins in doing it.

Exactly, I too viewed it as a Leino replacement, but obviously thought he'd get a few more points. Can't say I'm displeased at all though.

Points aside I think Jagr brought a lot more to the locker room, and he helped Giroux in dealing with all the extra attention he got due to breaking out (how to deal with being checked more tightly, etc).

I think he is a big reason the rookies had the season they did.

He replaced Lieno on the ice, but the impact he had off of it is/will be immeasurable in the future.

I dig having him on the team. I hope him and Teemu each re-up for one more go, obviously more so Jagr.

Jagr being on this team brought the locker room together which is what we needed badly after the past couple of seasons. The team seems like they are playing for each other now and not just themselves. Jagr being more excited for Giroux getting points then himself this season was just awesome to see.

Also bringing in him and Talbot will do wonders for this team in the first round against the Pens. Those two players will help push us past the Pens in the first round and I love it!

Agree 100%. Like everyone else seems to be expecting, 20-25 goals and 50-60pts would be good for me

I've always felt like we brought in Jagr for the playoffs more than for what he could do during the regular season, so I hope he really puts on a show now (especially in the first round against the Pens).

Having a guy like him around must be great for the young pups on the team, even if he disappointed jags68. Only 19 goals and 54 points. Pssshhhh. Forsberg would have had at least 90 pts if he'd come back to play.

I don't remember what I predicted about Jagr, but I am happy with how his season went.

I was reading back a bit, but then for about 20 straight pages we had jester and his empirical data explaining how Jagr would score 70 points vs a bunch of posters who said ppg player haha..And damn there were a lot of haters... Also spongolium called the line of Hartnell-Giroux-jagr!

If you guys want to know what you predicted, you can do "Search This Thread" and then an advanced search, and search for your username. You can find your prediction very easily. I use the feature a lot.

Did the work for you. This is what you said. Pretty good!

Do people really think Jagr will score at a ppg pace? I mean I have high hopes for him, but even if he's on the top line w/ jvr and Giroux and plays 82 games I don't see that happening. He hasn't played against NHL competition in years. Its going to take him time just to get used to the pace. I'd say (full season expectaion) 60 pts is likely, 70 is possible, and 80+ is dreamworld. I think he will greatly help the PP and the line of jvr-giroux-jagr would deadly if he plays well, but even then I think jvr and Giroux would get most of the points on that line.

I think the younger players seeing his commitment to working off the ice will last beyond his time here. I recall that Giroux interview about Jagr wearing a 40 lbs vest and going jogging at 11pm.

I'm going to re-open this topic. Just stick to topic and keep the deleted posts to PM conversations only.

Also the site rules state: Flaming: Do not post any messages that harass, insult (name calling), belittle, threaten or mock other members. Debates are fine, but critique the opinion, not the person.

Keep that type of stuff out of it as well.
