If the Canucks could pull that off, I'd be ecstatic. See what Toronto is willing to offer and then go to TBay and ask for more... The team with the best pkg wins! Tbay probably has the upper hand with their late 1st (Detroit's) as it'd be easy to add that to any pkg for them. But if Tbay isn't interested and Toronto is the only team that will take Loungo (which I doubt), a return of just Colborne is fine with me. The bigger return is moving Luongo and committing to Schneider long-term.
Unfortunately, I've resigned myself to the fact that Luongo isn't going anywhere with his NTC and won't want out - and unless he requests a trade, Gillis won't even ask him to waive it. It'll be a sad day in Vancouver when Schneider is eventually dealt. He is that good IMO.
Not exactly true, Gillis said something on the lines that if he felt a player was unhappy or wanting a trade he would ask the player about it. Looking at Luongo's family situation it would be an easy case for Gillis to talk to Luongo about going to TML or TBL to be a lot closer to home were he could see his family more regularly then almost never in Vancouver.
You are so busy defending your opinion, you don't know what you are even arguing. You said "he fixes a number of major holes" or something like that. I said he fills one hole at the expense of filling other holes.
Why rant that the Leafs goalies suck when that wasn't at all what my post said? **** you guys get annoying to talk to.
Your right those were great trades for Toronto and has help them a lot. Your also right Schneider doesn't help Toronto, so lets all move along, we keep Schneider away from Toronto and you guys can happily move forward with your great goaltending duo.
Nope we keep Schneider.
Then play him every single game against the leafs until he retires.
He also has to wear a leaf specific mask showing a cartoon character of the leafs logo slitting his wrists.
fixing 249 goals against is a major one to fix, and is the biggest one in need of a plug. But we'll send you Luongo for a cheaper price and everyone is happy.
I think it's more about clearing him for us to keep Schneider. I would be happy with Luke Schenn or Ashton and a 2nd for Luongo and re-sign Schneider and Lack is the back up.
Which is what he's saying.
You want Schneider kept at all costs ergo undervalue the asset that keep you from that goal.
The biggest risk is obviously Luongos contract however it's assumed he retires before it ends.
Like any player, if you're moving him you look for the best deal you can get, but I'd still deal Luongo for that return if nothing better comes along. Obviously you want the best deal possible, but consider this scenario:
Luongo has agreed to waive his NTC to 5 teams... Out of those 5 teams only TO is interested in taking his contract. They offer one of Colborne or Ashton and a 2nd.
Several teams are interested in Schneider. TBay gives you the best offer with Connolly + Det's 1st + 2 2nd round picks - a much better return than the Leafs are offering for Luongo.
Do you deal Luongo for that low return, or do you stick with Luongo and deal Schneider for the much better return from TBay?
Personally, I take the Toronto return every day of the week and lock up Schneider long term.

We don't need you guys to make us happy. We can fix our holes without Vancouver. Shocking, I know.
It would be incredibly ironic if Brian Burke solves his current goaltending problem by bringing in a goalie from Vancouver. Who of course has gone on to have amazing goaltending depth since he was fired.

It is shocking! How many years have you been trying to fix your holes? How's that going?
Although to be fair, you are getting a lot of help from Vancouver - a GM and AGM that both started their management careers in Vancouver, and a head-coach that started his coaching career in the Canucks system.
So it's not like you haven't gotten any help from the Canucks - though I'm not sure if "help" is the right word.

I think TB would take a better shot at Luongo if TO could pick him up that easily. I dunno Yzerman and the team Canada connection with Luongo makes sense. But I guess I see your point in getting what we can for Luongo and keeping Schneider long term.
Don't see Schneider/Luongo going to TO at all. They're both too good of goalies for Burke to acquire, and we all know Burkie doesn't believe in good goalies.
