Its a shame, because we could really use Hortons firepower.
Just like Hunwick's hit on Savvy.

I don't think he was 100% to start the season tbh.

the sad part is Rome and Sestito are fringe NHL players at best. given the day or week they might have not been in the lineup

I am sure it will come off as insensitive, and I wish Nathan the best, but I am just wondering which of his 2 game 7 goals we will miss more in the playoffs.

We probably all knew he was not comin back in our heads, but our hearts wouldn't let us believe it... Now we have to face the fact that winning 16 games from here to June just got that much tougher.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, they honor his loss by fighting hard every game so they don't have to be in a situation where they need him as a savior.

Tough loss. We will miss his clutch-ness and his feisty-iness. All that is important now is that he lets him self rest and gets back to 100% without rushing it. It's sad we are down one of our best players in the playoffs because of a scrub like Sestito.

I can not see the instigator rule going away.
While I'd like to see the Instigator penalty go away too, I don't think it will. I don't really think it would be that big a deterrent anyway. Guys that would be willing to fight right after a bad hit will fight later, as often happens now. And there will be guys who won't fight anyway and would run away or turtle if someone tried to go right after him.

A real deterrent would be consistent, increasingly punitive supplementary discipline, including a fine structure far exceeding the $2500 now in place. A large fine plus lost pay from suspended games might get guy to think about playing less recklessly. The NHL would have to actually start regularly punishing reckless hits though, which they are doing only inconsistently. I have come to the conclusion that Shanahan is looking for reasons NOT to suspend players, and that would have to stop. Just my opinion, but THAT'S how you get guys to stop running around headhunting.

I'm not that optimistic... It's about the same story as Savard. I think there's a decent chance that we won't see Horton playing another game...

I read that we will probably not see him and he's going to take some time off...

He must have had a setback post skate... not good.

That sucks. Horton is one of my favorite non-Flyers.

Here's to a full recovery.

aww man, that sucks...where did you read it? I figured they meant he was going to take some time off from skating/drills etc. Cause I know he has been attending the regular season games

I am not at all shocked at the announcement, but it is still sad for Nathan that he is going to miss the playoffs. For his health and benefit though, if waiting is needed he needs to wait. Hopefully the summer will give him the time he needs to recover and he will be able to play next season.

Hopefully Peverly, Seguin and Pouliot can step in and make up for the loss.

Chiarelli today:

"@NHLBruins: PC: "You probably won't see him...he'll probably take a couple weeks off (soon)."^BISH"

"@NHLBruins: Chiarelli said that the time away is important and that the team had done similar things with Bergeron, Savard...^BISH"

And, interestingly - to me:
"@NHLBruins: PC said that Horton's concussion in the Final is unconnected to the most recent injury.^BISH"

I hear ya, hope it's not true but....Perron in St. Louis missed what??? Almost 100 games and has come back and played well, let's hope Nate gets healthy, Bruin or not, can't stand how so many excellent players are missing time

Sad but not unexpected news.

Hopefully Nathan can follow the Bergeron path to post concussion recovery and take as much time as needed.

The slug fest fight that Horton had in the Jan. 7th Canucks game, 2 weeks before the Flyers' game, may have also been a factor in his season-ending concussion.

Unless Chia is lying, the 2 concussions are unrelated to each other. Guess the Sestito hit wasn't as innocent as some think. And nothing like Huntwick on Savard.

Thing is Horton has had multiple ones unlike Perron which had got his 1st
