Blues MVP this season?

I know they are all sum of a bigger part but if you have to choose one player to be the best player, the MVP of the Blues this year, who will it be?

Went with Petro, but writing in Hitch was a thought.

I feel the same as you but I dont think any team have ever voted the coach to be the MVP of the team? I could be wrong.

But anyway, I would choose A-Pie either way.

Elliott and Halak should share the team MVP honors.

Here's my reasoning...

Hitch isn't a player so the title "most valuable player" doesn't really apply.

Pie has been outstanding night in and night out. His poise, maturity, and consistency has been the foundation of our D. I may be grinding my ax a bit, but Pie has been everything EJ wasn't and couldn't be.

Elliott has had an unreal season. He stepped up enormously when Halak got off to a slow start. If it wasn't for Elliott carrying the weight early on (and throughout the whole year), the Blues wouldn't be where they are now.

I have to go with Elliott.

Elliott and Halak. This team would not be in the position they are today, without the way those two have played all year

Went with Petro, without him anchoring the d core who knows where we would be sitting.

Elliott and Halak should share their own slot.

I voted Halak, if he didn't turn his season around I don't think the Blues would be sitting atop the NHL.

Pietrangelo or Backes... Our C was very valuable especially in the first half of the season. But, overall, I go with 27

I voted for Pietrangelo, but Backes, Halak, and Elliott deserve credit as well.

Usually these things should go to a player, but this team is just that a team and that is a reflection of Hitchcock getting everyone to play the same game.

I went with A-Pie too, but wow it is a tough choice. I could see either of the Gs getting it, or even Backes too.

For me it's a no brainer, Alex Pietrangelo.

Honorable mentions: Shattenkirk, Backes, Elliott/Halak

All season long the MVP has been the goalies. Whether it is Halak or Elliott it doesn't matter. Since Hitch took over, there isn't one loss you can blame on goaltending, while there were several low scoring wins where the goalies stole the points.

Halak and Elliott should share the team's MVP IMO.

I'm going to say Elliott. He kept this team afloat at he beginning of the year with his play, when Halak was not playing good.

I think a valid argument can me made for all the above, but just to throw in another name, I went with other, and am writing in Andy Mac. This team really took off when he came back, and even now with Steen and Perron back, Andy Mac just brings something extra.

To add to my previous post which didn't really offer anything...

Early on I'd say Elliot would have been the MVP for keeping us in games while Halak was getting back to normal form. While both goalies have played awesome for us pretty much all season, each one has only played about half the games. Petro has been a rock, all season. I don't really remember a game this season where I came out thinking he had a bad game.

Elliott for me. He saved us at the start and kept Halak motivated and rebirthed him.

It was between Pietrangelo and Backes for me. They co-MVP's in my mind.

Pietrangelo by a pretty wide margin. The blues have their star player.

I love Alex Pietrangelo, and I don't think there's any question that he's the best overall player on the team, but I have to go with Backes. He's played every single game against the other team's top lines, battled through injuries to him and his linemates and just kept going. He's is the Blues personified. He is everything that Hitch wants this team to be.

Great question! I felt a little bad picking one person as this has truly been a team effort all year. In my mind it was between Pie and Backes. Pie is such a great all around player but Backes is that tough lead by example type. (perfect C)

I went with Pie only because it seems to me that #42's game has been a little off ever since we saw the "I think Backes is playing hurt" threads around the begining of the year. I think Backes is awesome, that was my tie-breaker. Am I crazy?
