Why not wait to see what other coaches get fired and see if they would be better than sucko? What if the sharks miss the playoffs or lose in the first round and fire the koala? I would rather have the koala behind the bench than sucko. I doubt any team is lining up for joe sucko so the team could wait and see what other coaching options there are.
Sacco is leading the youngest AND cheapest team in the league to a 10 game over .500 record. Plus he hasn't made many bone headed moves the past couple months.
If it's anything like coaches on the hot-seat in other sports, the "vote of confidence" from management near the end of an iffy season could be one of the first signs that their job(s) may NOT be safe.

Glad that Sherman is coming back. Sacco.... well I would have prefered to start the new year with a new coach, but I will reserve total judgement to see what he can do with a non cap floor team.
I am really glad Sherman is back. I didn't think there was any doubt he would be.
Sacco I have come around on. He still makes mistakes but there is no doubt that this team has turned a corner. Stastny's recent play implies that there is some buy in on his part, which is good to see.
Also worth noting that this is an opinion piece by Dater. He has no inside knowledge. All it says in the article is that this is from "NHL sources", which the Avs don't usually let anything out.
I'm fine as long as Sacco has a very short leash. I can understand that they're basing the overall performance on the payroll as well, so if we spend more and then aren't playing well, can him.
Sacco isn't great, but he hasn't done bad this year...
I wonder how Duchene and Mueller feel about this
They'll be fine when healthy. Muellers problem has been health, Duchene it was health combined with lazyness.
I can understand wanting a new head coach but I don't understand the hate for Sacco. He isn't terrible. More like mediocre, and that is good enough. Claude Julian was mediocre until the B's became a great team, then ironically he became a great coach. He does some dumb things, but overall the teams played hard and met Shermans expectations.
As for Sherman, idk if he really is a figure head or not but the front office has been making great decisions since he took it over.
Nooooooooooooooooooooo my hopes for next season are already gone if Sacco gets a new contract
These young players need a guy that can teach them how to play in a proper system. Joe Sacco is a lot like Davis Payne the former Blues coach, they let the players play their game and that doesn't work in NHL if you want to win games on a regular basis no matter how much talent the players have. That Colorado actually has managed to win games anyway does say a lot about how much talent this team have.
I'm sick of seeing this team come out flat and go down a goal or two before they start playing. I'm sick of seeing forwards as point men in power play especially when they are out of form... I'm sick of this team sitting back when they have a lead and then see the game tied. I'm sick of this team's inability to play a 60 minute game, they have done that like once or twice this season. I'm sick of seeing this team constantly losing against teams that know how to shut down their speed like Nashville and Phoenix. I'm sick of Avs losing against other NW division teams. I'm sick of this team going on 3-4 game losing streaks because they don't have a coach that can pick them up from a slump. If the Avs weren't exceptional in shootouts this team wouldn't even be in a playoff race right now. Not all these issues are Sacco's fault but there is too many problems to ignore.
If Sacco were going to get canned it would have happened back in December. After the season the Avs have had, regardless of whether or not they sneak into the playoffs, you really can't fire the coach.
I'm by no means a Sacco apologist, but I would find it absolutely hilarious if next year he leads this team to the Stanley Cup while winning the Jack Adams...our collectives heads would probably explode from sheer joy and bewilderment at the same time...
Alright cant wait to see Tippet and the rest of the Pacific out couach our guy. Sherm the worm is a calculated gambler and thus far his moves have been great. His return is fine but Sacco sheesh no thanks. Then again the players seem to love him except Galiardi and Quincey

I dont think any of us would have much to complain about if we get the cup next year.

Sacco should have been fired last year after the horrible collapse the team had.
A three year record above .500, despite last season's record, with the youngest team in the NHL for 2 of the last 3 years(2nd youngest team last year) and a team salary scraping the cap floor.
We can accuse him of this and that all we want, but he was always going to be returning. The true evaluation will be after we spend some money and the team matures a bit.
I'd give Sacco a 1 year extension with a club option of a second year.
