That would mean I'd never buy another jersey, and I buy a lot of jerseys. I refuse to be a billboard for a company above and beyond just how horrible it looks. In all sports IMO.
I am sick of seeing ads everywhere in hockey as it is. Ads on the boards are repulsive. Then there are ads under the ice that look even worse. Now the jerkwad TV execs are putting ads on the glass. Every little tidbit of info you get either from your TV/Radio persoanlities or arena PA announcer is sponsored by somebody, and the arenas themselves are named after corporations as well.
The line in the sand has to be drawn somewhere and it damned well better be here. Hockey is already oversaturated with ads to the point that it's all just a blur anyway.
I dont want the team jerseys to become a blur too.
The league should just show non-stop lightning fast infomercials on the Jumbotron every intermission, and for the home viewer... ads instead of analysis of the period you just watched.
I hate advertising all advertising, I try to cut as much of it out of my life as realistically possible. This would be really disappointing if the NHL did this. It wouldn't make me stop being a fan of the game, but if I wasn't already hooked it may have initially turned me away.
North America isn't Europe. We don't have to do things like Europe.
I don't think it's a european thing. I think it's a sports thing in general. Me, being used to ads on jerseys since the Swedish teams has had them for as long as i can remember, don't even notice the ads on the jerseys. Most of all because... well, i'm watching a hockey game right? So my attention should be on the puck and not the ads on the jerseys?
Besides, i don't think ads on jerseys would actually hurt the NHL in any way. I actually think it would benefit from it. Add the income from a big time sponsor to the increased ticket sales because of a lowered prices(i understand this is not a problem with most teams but it could benefit the sun-belt teams a lot). This because most people probably can't afford taking their family to a hockey game. Times are rough. And i as a student sure as hell appreciates being able to buy a ticket(In sweden i should add) for 20$ instead of 150$. It means i don't have to empty my wallet every time want to catch a hockey game. But if money isn't a problem to you i guess it's kind of hard to understand my angle on this.
You seriously don't think full packed houses every night in every arena, and the atmosphere that follows, trumphs a small add on a jersey? Maybee we are just completely different people.
And for the people talking about never buying jerseys because there are ads one them. Many teams with ads sell blank jerseys and ad covered ones.
And i should add i completely understand where you guys are coming from. I don't like change either, especially not corporate change. And jerseys sure as hell look a lot better without ads than with. I also understand the concept of "some things you just don't change".
But at least think about my points for a second.
Here are two examples from the Swedish Elite League i actually find to actually look pretty good. Even with ads. You(or at least i) hardly notice them when you are watching the game(except the ads on the pants wich at least i think is anon issue).
Please don't jump me.
EDIT: I should add that i've never heard a player or a member of an organization mention the sponsors. They are there to be looked at wich means you don't have to mention them. At least that's the way it works here.

Great idea. I would be in favour of having advertisements on jerseys. People fail to realize that NHL teams want to maximize profits. My hockey viewing experience doesn't change at all with advertisements.

Even with the ads on the jerseys, I seriously doubt teams would consider lowering their ticket prices. You would still have to pay full price.
As for your two pics, the two jerseys would look so much better without the ads, especially the red one...
I buy a jersey to support a sports team, and have the ability to choose which one I buy. I have no desire whatsoever to advertise for batteries, toothpaste, or the local grocery and have no say about those ancillary businesses. Is that clearer? I'm not going to advertise for Amway. Ever. (Or for the Redwings, but that's besides the point. )
And why do people say ads are ok to go along with lower ticket prices? The ads aren't to lower ticket prices, they are to make more money. The tems will charge the largest amount possible for EVERY revenue stream.
The only teams that need Advertising are teams that are in financial trouble, the Leafs Rangers and Habs are the last team that needs more money.

If the NHL wants sponsorship money so badly that it's willing to desecrate even the uniforms, then it can afford to do without my money.
Ads on European league jerseys are sublimated, which the NHL does not do at all.
If the AHL is any indication, there would be a small number of patches made available only for team issue. They're not available in the stores or anything else, so the blank jersey has no ads on it.
Hockey is for you and me not for ****ing industry.
I mean I could easily see the midget jumping on it but imagine an original 6 team having advertisers on their jersey, disgraceful. As SEL fans we have to buy 3rd or even 4th jerseys if we don't want to buy and ad cursed one hope the big NHL teams will say no to this crap.
If some joke gangster leagues want to do it fine, they can't get any lower anyways but for hockey it would be a slap in the face to the integrity of the game.
I hate Ads. I try to avoid Youtube now because of them. I love my DVR. If an ad gets in the way of something I'm trying to do, I go out of my way not to buy what they are selling, and the day I buy a jersey that looks like that is the day I put a bullet in my head.
Get ad block plus for the internet. No ads at all, not even on youtube.

Not saying they wouldn't do it, quite the contrary. Anything for a buck.
