He isn't big and physical in own end but he makes the opponent unconfortable with the puck and closes passing lanes. He's pretty passive what comes to getting the puck off but very rarely you see the opponent getting good chances when he's against them.

All this is based on what I've seen him do in SM-liiga. He'll have to read those moves from a whole different level of guys in NHL though.

Anyway I'm impressed in his D-side.

They played maybe 3 minutes together in the whole tournament. Their combined points in that time were Koivu's 0+2=2 and Granlund's 1+1... Coincidence?

Well Finland still has the bronze game to play. I would expect to hear his signing early next week.

Oh theres a bronze medal game? Okay. Hopefully he signs the deal immediately after that one.

If he delays very long people are gonna start panicking, including myself.

Granlund interviewed after Bronze game loss:
http://www.iltalehti.fi/mmjaakiekko2...98441_j0.shtml

Translated one comment by Granlund:

I don't have a clue what will happen in the summer. I just can't think about the future now.
Probably just disappointed and didn't feel like thinking about summer plans yet but I imagine someone could panic after hearing that.

Well, at least he didn't say anything about learning Russian or apartment hunting in Minsk.

So overall a disappointing tournament for Granlund. Started strong and played well on the last game. But especially his complete disappearing act against the North American teams was really worrying. Linemates didn't help though. I still have confidence he can reach his potential, but it might take longer than I thought.

On the positive side for Wild fans, Koivu and Granlund played really well together whenever they happened to be on the ice at the same time. Too bad we saw so little of it. And if Filppula is ever traded to Minnesota, that could be a pretty good line with Granlund and Koivu

I thought he was good (and actually great at times) in the last three games. Even against USA in the 1st playoff-round. It's not his fault that no Finn can score... He should've had something like 1+3 in those games, there were some absolutely brilliant passes that should have led to goals.
