Agreed. I think the Flames #1 priority is to get a player like Benn. A young superstar that will play with Baertschi and this years draft pick.
Trade Kipper, Iggy, Jokinen, Jbouw for picks and young proven players. I really believe that this team will be different this offseason. Feaster will make some significant changes.
As much as I like Iginla, Its time to part ways while he has value. There is no way we win a cup with him here. Same with Kipper. Let Kipper shine for another team because his godlike goaltending is a waste playing for us.

To be fair, they had prospects lined up for a couple years, Spezza to "support" Alfredsson (sp) and the breakout of Michelek/Karlsson this season (sp).

1) Drafting. Murray is pretty good when it comes to finding talent with later round picks (2nd and lower). He's also pretty good at making later first rounders count.
2) The Sens already had a key part to their success; he just need time to recover from injuries - a healthy Spezza is pretty elite.
3) The Sens also have a good coach, something the Flames haven't had since Darryl stepped down.
It's importantly to realize as well that the Sens had multiple top ten picks in the last five or so years and critically, their owner and management weren't as brain dead as the Flames' are and actually sold at trade deadlines when the team was out of it. The Flames are determined to avoid lottery picks at any cost which makes drafting and developing talent that much harder.
Anyway the roster in the original post is probably good for a top five pick unless the team manages to snag a brilliant coach from somewhere.

I could give less of a **** about how HF views our team, as long as I think the team is doing what they believe is best long term for the franchise. If this means rebuilding and competing, fine. If it means tanking, I'm less okay with it, but I won't bail. If it means attempting to win with this core, well, I'll be disappointed as ****, but I'll still be cheering.

I am a flames fan first but growing up in van I am a canuck fan as well. I do not respect tanking and would lose alot of respect for this organization if they tank.

Very few organizations intentionally tank. However, a combination of inept management, years of poor drafting and player development, declining star players, and injuries will make bottom five finishes a reality. The Flames meet all of these criteria. Barring the miraculous acquisition of several elite superstars in next off season, the Flames are well on their way to the lottery.

that's what people said this year too. they will not be a lottery team, they will be a team between 7th and 11th, just like this year. With Iggy, Tanguay, Cammy, Glencross, Bouwmeester, Giordano and Kiprusoff the odds of this team being a bottom 5 team are extremely slim.

I see Anaheim and Edmonton being better than the Flames next year. The only team I see as a guarantee of being worse than the Flames is Columbus. The only thing keeping this team out of the bottom three teams this season was a super-human effort by Kiprusoff. He'll have to repeat that again next season just for the Flames to have similar success they achieved this year. Considering it will be a transition year for the club, I don't see that happening at all.
Semin is one of those talents that does good on good teams and bad on bad teams. This team is messed up and Semin is not the type of player that would help. We would throw money at him and really hinder the team more long term. This team needs young character guys moving up and a few leaders being brought in.
There really isnt any UFAs that could alone boost this team. Its going to be long time fix for this team and I dont meant by blowing it all up.
Ship Stajan, Cammalerri and Jaybo out as salary dump for any prospect we can get. That would be a dream come true move.
Why? - Flames gets a good center prospect to add size down the middle as well as a 1st next year. Leafs get a legitimate #1 goaltender to tutor Reimer for a couple years. The teams would also swap overpaid defensemen to help this work under the cap, the Leafs would likely bury Babchuk while the Flames could use Komisarek on their 3rd pairing as a physical presence to play with Brodie.
