I'm hoping we draft Murray, have been all year. Luckily, he fits the McGregor MO perfectly and I'm fairly confident he's the guy outside of Yakupov.
If we sign Schultz and draft Murray, we probably have the best D in prospects in the league:
Bluechipper: Ryan Murray
Cut Below: Klefbom (WJC all star), Schultz (Best NCAA D-Man 2 years running)
Potential Top 4s: Marincin, Gernat
Wildcards w/definite NHL potential: Musil, Blain, Teubert, Davidson, etc.
That's just crazy talk! Our forward prospects aren't quite as stacked with the graduations of RNH, Hall, Eberle, and Paajarvi--but that doesn't make those guys magically disappear from future plans.
I'm a big fan of building from the crease out. This is really exciting.
For some reason I think he's saying he's interested in playing in Edmonton just to make the likes of Detroit and Toronto cough up more. Bet Columbus would toss a pretty penny his way. Their blueline blows.

If he signs with Detroit I hope that he enjoys his time in Grand Rapids.

Getting Nick Schultz as a prelude to trying to snag Justin Schultz was brilliant foresight by Tambo. Like when Anaheim signed Rob Niedermayer to get Scott Niedermayer later on...

If we really want him I'd simply tell his agent we'll beat whatever they're offering by $300k a year ... which to a 22-year-old college student isn't exactly chump change. Plus the chance to play more minutes here.
That's to say if our scouts like him enough. Go get him in that case. It's unlikely Tambo is going to be able to sign some stud d-man off the UFA market anyway.
You can't talk to him until he officially becoames a UFA. and once he does he is still bound by the ELC rules so the best the Oilers could do would be a max rookie deal with a good bonus package. Any other team could do the same. The difference is that he has a very good cahnce to play in Edmonton and as such earn big league money. In TO and Vancouver he might well end up in the AHL earning far less and making his second contract worth potentially less.
does any one have a listing of the best NCAA defenceman each year? i cant even find an award name but i could have sworn Jeff Petry was nominated in his draft year or right after
This would be a massive help to the team. Just the type of player the oilers need. Add to that of the guys in this years draft Reilly seems to be the closest. I agree with others here Bobby Mac don;t tease us because this would fill a big need on this team.
He wants top 10 draft pick money and a place were he can step into the lineup right away
i've never seen the kid play, and his numbers in a very good college conference are impressive.... BUT...
is this kid really worth the rookie max? he's awfully small for a dman, and he hasn't ever played in an international tournament... the best competition he's ever played against is in college....i don't think it's a slam-dunk that this guy will ever even be a NHL player.... there are lots and lots of college studs who never pan out

6'1" 185lbs, not exactly awfully small.
Here's the thing if what I heard is true and the max he can get is 925k, you give it to him and be done with. Doesn't cost you a draft pick, so spend that extra money.
Yes there are lots of guys that don't pan out, but that didn't stop us from giving Fedun 900k.

We also have a really solid top 4 moving forward even without any of those prospects.
Smid-Petry
Whitney-Schultz
Add in Murray or Dumba? other Schultz, Klefbom, Musil and we've got a really good D-core.
I don't really see a reason to NOT make a huge push for him. According to multiple media members and scouts he is a bonafide blue chip D prospect who looks ready to step in right now. Is it a risk for an unproven player? Yes but not really that big of one. Worst worst worst case scenario is he can't make it in the top 4 and he's a depth defender who makes $925k/year for 2 years, not exactly a cap burden.
One of those situations where Tambo should be going balls out to convince him to sign here. No real downside to it imho.
Why is he available? Has he just not signed in Anahiem and their rights to him are expiring?
If so, don't they still have time to make a deal with him?
I see Schultz threads everywhere, but I havnt seen an explaination as to why he is available.

Not sure the exact details, but I believe it's the same as the Blake Wheeler thing. A draft pick plays college for 4 years without signing an ELC, and then becomes a free agent.

It's odd, something might've happened between him and the team because truthfully if you want to play in the NHL next year ANA isn't that hard to make.
