It's odd, something might've happened between him and the team because truthfully if you want to play in the NHL next year ANA isn't that hard to make.
Maybe they wanted him to go pro but he wanted to play 3 years with his brother at college. Oh wait that was our first rounder Riley Nash.

Exactly. I keep thinking that it's kind of like Riley Nash, only Schultz sounds much better.
I haven't read anything negative regarding his attitude too. Every report seems to suggest that he's a good kid, leader, all that stuff. It would be interesting to know what happened with the Ducks.
Reading on the Ducks board, they are still hopeful of signing Schultz.
There is a "worry" that he may become a UFA, but there has been no confirmation that he and the Ducks are splitting.
The only common theme was Schultz saying he will not sign until after the end of his school year.
Getting Nick Schultz as a prelude to trying to snag Justin Schultz was brilliant foresight by Tambo. Like when Anaheim signed Rob Niedermayer to get Scott Niedermayer later on...
My guess is that he signs in Anaheim before their rights expire. However, even if he did make it to UFA status, I doubt we'd have much of a shot at him.

i've never seen the kid play, and his numbers in a very good college conference are impressive.... BUT...
is this kid really worth the rookie max? he's awfully small for a dman, and he hasn't ever played in an international tournament... the best competition he's ever played against is in college....i don't think it's a slam-dunk that this guy will ever even be a NHL player.... there are lots and lots of college studs who never pan out
Worst case scenario he isn't NHL ready and you play him in OKC and don't have to pay his NHL salary. Not a big deal IMO.

thats a good point, i kinda forgot we could stick him in OKC as he would be on an ELC
for those that are saying his max salary would be 925k, is he not elligible for bonuses the way our other players on ELC are?
Based on Bozak's salary I would say that he is eligible for bonuses. The bottom line is that the bigger the deal that his agent negotiates the more likely it is that he's in the AHL unless he steps right in and is an impact player in the NHL right away due to the potential cap hit.
He's in a great position to succeed in Edmonton. If they offered him max contract and max bonuses that would be very appealing I'm sure as he has the best opportunity to reach those bonuses playing here.
I'm sure he sees how the team has the #2 PP in the NHL and how elite RNH is already on the PP. He could probably hit his bonuses just dishing it off to RNH on the PP.
I can't imagine how dreadful that would be for some of the American broadcasters.
"...and that pass was from C-Schultz...and by that I mean the player Justin Schultz...who spells his name S-C-H... Justin Schultz is an ex-Badger out of the NCAA program.....playing for the University of Wisconsin....lovely cheese in Wisconsin....Justin Shultz was named the defensive player of the year. Another Shultz on the Edmonton Oilers squad is ex-Minnesota Wild player Nick Shultz...who does not spell his name with a C...rather choosing to spell his name S-H-U-L-T-Zee...or Zed if you happen to live in Canada.....as you know there are two pronunciations for the letter Z...just as there appears to be two different spellings for the name...Shultz...or Schultz.."
...meanwhile Eberle has scored the game winner and the stanley cup final is over.

Oh snap so they aren't related. Is their an outside chance of being like 4th or 5th cousins?
Might go to Toronto Burke is decent at landing college players
I say Oilers have a better chance then TO to land him. He will get a dozen max ELC offers, so it all depends on where he wants to be.
Edmonton is an attractive option to young Dmen.
Just like we would NOT be an attractive option if he was a small skill forward.
But really...who knows his thought process is and what is important to him. To an outsider, Edm seems like a logical choice.
My money is still on Anahiem though. I say 50-50 he signs in Anahiem. If not, it's a 1 in 10 chance he picks us.
These numbers are officially pulled from my arse.
