With the firing of the 15th place GM that drops the floor to the 14th place team and nothing standing in the way of the next poorest GM performance now.
Rogers/Bell are new owners and so we don't know yet, what their standards are to measure success and failure. We have seen however by today's firing that Montreal does not make excuses nor accept failure and the owner couldn't have made that point any clearer than his statement .
"We need to remember that our fans want us to win, period," Molson told reporters. "Our organizational culture is to support and adopt this passion for victory. Nothing else matters."
How does that desire differ between Leafs and Montreal ownership and fans, is the question here ?.

the deal is this, Gathier took over a team that looked very much like a dark horse contender and turned it into a lottery team
Burke took a team that looked like it came out of the south end of that dark horse. A franchise with empty cupboards and a roster full of guys who were fringe NHLer's at best, Kulemin/Grabs/Schenn excepted. and turned it into a team that if it had Montreals goaltending would more then likely be a team that was looking to secure some home ice advantage.
Theres a huge difference in what the two men had to work with and while I'm just as frustrated with the way the team is definitely not showing up right now, it could be that they are leaving it in the locker-room for a valuable purpose.
