If that was the price for Nash it is essentially meaningless. Even if the Leafs wanted to make the deal they didn't have the cap space to fit Nash on the roster.

Maybe on a better team he can crack 70 a few more times (maybe even 80), but without our savior 1st line center, even that seems pretty hopeful.

With the way we've been playing and the injuries to Gus, Reimer, Lupul, and Kulemin, I'd rather go for Grigorenko and develop him alongside Kadri, Gardiner, a high 2nd rounder this year, Colborne, Percy, Biggs, Ashton, Frattin, Blacker, McKegg, Ross, etc. that we've worked so hard over that last several years to finally accumulate.

Did we learn nothing from the '90s and early '00s? Or even from the Kessel trade?
Exactly my sentiments. Burke-don't you dare trade any of our assets for someone else who needs. #1 C to produce. Stay the course and accumulate assets. When they start to develop and contribute, THEN look to move some for finishing pieces.

Nash isn't even top tier talent in this league. He's Kessel-good, which is good, but not top-tier good.

CBJ and Howson can keep Nash unless the price drops considerably. Nash is a salary dump at this point IMHO.

Rick Nash isn't good enough to warrant that kind of package.

I actually don't think Gardiner and Kadri are that steep of a price for a player of Nash's caliber.

However, there is no way in hell I would be trading the first round draft pick that Columbus wanted.

The timing was all wrong for the Leafs on this deal. A team hanging around the 8th spot shouldn't be even contemplating trading away top prospects and draft picks for Nash.

It sounds like Berger was assuming that that's what it would take to get Nash.

I don't think he knows for certain

Yeah I wouldn't trade the pick.

The leafs need to keep that pick at all costs

If Kadri's or our first is included nopeee. When will leaf fans ever learn.... Every time we trade our 1st / young prospects it bites us all in the ass. Can't we just develop our own star for once?

Relax people, Burke is not going to do that deal. It came from Berger's imagination, Burke is not looking to mortage the future. He will deal a player(s) off the roster with one propect. Whether this gets it done, it depends on Howson.

Burke held onto Kaberle until he got the return he wanted. No doubt Howson will do the same.

Kaberle never asked for a trade. Huge difference

We'd have to win the draft lottery, Columbus has clinched last overall.

This package sounds like a move akin to when the Isles gave up Spezza and Chara for Yashin.

This is the equal value that Burke paid to get a 60 pt winger with work ethic problems, bad attitude and tendencies to ask for trades when things get tough. Although Nash would bring leadership and has actually scored 40 goals and has won the Rocket Richard Trophy.

Kaberle didn't make $7.8 million for 6 years.

If Howson is using that logic to trade the 1st overall pick, then he seriously needs to be fired immediately before he IRREPARABLY ruins that franchise for good.

i disagree. no doubt Nash is a very good player..but he's good for what, 60-70 points?

Kadri and Gardiner are the types of players that would be very likely to come back and bite us if traded...and the 1st rd pick is definitely that.

that's three great building blocks for a 60-70 point player...from a team that should absolutely be rebuilding.

seems like a step backwards from the direction we should be going.

the Kessel trade didn't sit well for me for that reason...but at least Kessel was like 21 or whatever.
