There currently is no other player in the entire organization with Kadri's skill-set to look forward to. Its not a matter of trading this guys point totals for another guy's point totals, you can't say "Kadri will never be a 40G PWF." That's not the point, you must look at players as pieces to a team. Without Kadri, there is no one else to replace him with those hands and vision to go with that edge he plays with.

The way I see it, is the upgrade from Lupul to Nash, taking salary into account, worth all that? That's how it must be looked at. And when considering this team's strengths/weaknesses, its an easy no from me.
Your reasoning is strong but your counter offer is horrible.

So you think the original post is fair value? A 7th pick, a top 5 pick and a top defensive prospect, that seems fair value to you?
never said it was good value, but leaf fans were throwing Schenn/Kadri/1st (at the time it wasnt top end was it?) for Nash at the deadline out.

I like Nash but I wouldn't trade our first if it's in the top 5 alone for Rick.

Lol this is the price you pay for a player of Rick Nash's caliber.
Do I pull the trigger? Probably not.

its not that crazy,

what would people want for Kessel?

Its a potential top 5 pick, 7th overall who hasn't been able to make the NHL yet, and a mid first that had a good rookie year

its like Kessel for Islanders 1st, Bailey, and Hamonic

And that's when you ask 'Is Rick Nash the player we can afford to get by sacrificing picks/prospects who will put us over the top and make us a Cup favourite?'

The answer is no, in my opinion.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha no. Gardiner, Kadri and a top 5 pick for Nash? That would be one of the worst moves in franchise history, maybe THE worst move. Nash is good, but not THAT good. Also, he turns 28 in a couple months. Everyone likes to look at guys like Teemu and say "see, guys can be awesome well into their 30s, even thier 40s!", but the truth is that the vast majority of forwards have their scoring peaks in their mid 20s, start to decline around their late 20s, and have declined a lot by their early 30s. Scott Gomez has a WAY more typical career path than Teemu Selanne.

I have absolutely no interest at all in trading the farm for a 28 year old Rick Nash who makes a ridiculous $7.8 mil per year for the next 6 years. NONE. I'm sure (or at least I strongly hope) that Burke has no interest in this either. Let someone else overpay for him, though nobody is going to overpay THIS hard.

No thanks Columbus, we aren't giving up youth for an aging player with a huge contract.

Why are so many wanting the quick fix all the time?
Haven't we seen enough quick fixes in the past, that were in reality 1 step forward and 2 steps back?
Let's keep our picks, let them mature in junior or the AHL for a reasonable time (like successful teams do) be patient and hopefully be rewarded.
The Leafs need to be the team that takes advantage of teams looking for the quick fix and not continually be the team wanting a quick fix.

Scott Gomez has a typical career of a guy trying to cash out.. He's not a goal scorer.

If your star player, and captain asks for a trade, wouldn't it make sense to give him what he wants instead of setting a price that pretty much guarantees he wont be traded? Wouldnt make many players want to go to Columbus if Howson can't even respect the Captains wishes.

How does Berger know what Howson asked for? He has never broken a trade from my memory. Not exactly a scource to have 6 pages of replies.

If the Leafs do get Nash and there is no guarantee he will want to even come here, unless he feels we are close to being a contender, I doubt the price will be this high. Berger is not a hockey insider, my experience of listening to him throughout the years is he has one of the worst opinions.

Lol. This is more than the end result (not even just the original trade) of what we paid for Kessel, who was younger, more talented, producing at a similar rate with more potential, and on a significantly cheaper contract.

He was never the savior of the team - in fact many people argued not to deal for him as it didn't solve any of our biggest gaps on the team.

So ... not really sure this is valid....

Oh and PS ---- No chance do I make this deal. 3 huge pieces of our future for a 1st line RW that we already have!!

I agree.

Kadri >>> Knight
Seguin?2012 1st. My guess is equal or slight edge to Seguin
Gardiner=Hamilton

I genuinely wouldn't even trade our 1st for Nash.

I wouldn't mind trading players for him at all, we just can't afford to sacrifice a great quality of our future when this team isn't really a piece or two away.

Hahaha.

**** no.

Keep your 28 year old, $7.8M, forward who averages 66 points a season.

For me, any deal including Kadri or Gardiner is a no go. Combine them both, and add a top 5 pick? No freaking way.
