According to reports, the Leafs refused to move Gardiner. They were willing to trade Kadri and the 1st rounder (which was projected to be a 12-15th rounder at the time and presumably higher had we attained Nash).
Let's say Columbus still won't make a trade unless it includes Gardiner, and we can massage the deal into:
Gardiner, Frattin or Colbourne, 2013 1st round pick.
I know people freak out at the thought of Gardiner being moved, but I really don't see him being a #1 defenceman. Obviously I could be wrong and all that but I've seen plenty of defensemen and rookies in general look great at first but then level off in their play.
I just have this feeling that next year we'll be saying "why the hell didn't we trade Gardiner for Nash?".
then every team should trade their good rookies then? Even if he doesn't develop into a #1 defencemen, whats wrong with a #2 guy?
I think that Howson wasn't under the gun to trade Nash so he asked for the moon and the stars in hope of catching another GM willing to do something stupid. Now he does have to make a move before next season but I wouldn't be surprised if the situation gets dragged out for as long as he can.
Truly believe that A N Y GM would start chuckling at this. And if Howson couldn't get anything like this return at the deadline what makes him think he's going to get it now? 3 first round picks, two of which are / going to be top-tens (in all likelihood)for a very overrated player that doesn't fill an organizational need - no way this happens
