2014 Stanley Cup Final

So many people aren't giving the Rangers a chance. Are they nuts? Two words: King. Henry.

I don't really care who wins. I'll be happy if Gaborik or Staal get a cup.

Maybe Marc comes here if the Rangers win.

On one hand, if Marc wins he'll come here and we get to complete Voltron with all 4 Staal brothers on the same team.

On the other hand... god damn I hate some of the idiots that invade our arena, and being that my current roommates are Kings fans and JWil plays for them?

Go Kings Go

All this LA nonsense and I've still yet to see a single one of you post that California Love song by Tupac. For shame.

Two of my favorite players of all time (Williams and St. Louis) going up against each other in the finals. I'm sticking with rooting for the Kings as I have been. Though it would be fun to watch the reaction of fans if Marty won a cup after the trade. It which would surely piss off all the fans that were complaining about him requesting a trade.

Even with that, it can't overcome my dislike of the Rangers (well, more-so the NYR fans) and I kinda like a lot of the Kings players (JWill, Carter, Doughty, Kopitar, etc....) and how the Kings play the game.

Only before Anaheim. I had SJ series going 6 and CHI series going 7 on my personal bracket.

Kings are the better team. But being a heavy favorite really just means 60-40 in this sport.

Just curious as I'm not sure how to go look it up, but if you look at the last few SCF's, how many times has the underdog won?

I think:
06: Canes were favored over EDM
07: Ducks were favored over OTT?
Not sure of Wings and Pens in 08 and 09, but IIRC, they were pretty even?
10: Hawks favored over PHI?
11: Bos favored over Van?
12: LAK favored over NJD?
13: Bos vs. Chi?

Anyone know for sure?

Vancouver was favored over Boston IIRC.

LA and Chicago were definitely the favorites.

Well, this is a significant win-slightly less win situation.

If LA wins then my 2nd favorite team, which I'm bandwagoning, wins the Cup. If the Rangers win, it's the ultimate troll on Vancouver, which is funny.

From my recollection:

06: Canes over Oil. 2 seed versus 8 seed. There were people who were trying to pump the Oilers up based on their run in the playoffs, but the Canes were the favorite.
07: Ducks over Sens. The Ducks had a reputation for being a nasty, nasty team to play against that year. The Sens had a reputation for being skilled but soft, though not to the same extent as the Sabres that year. Pretty much everyone saw that result coming.
08: Pens, but barely. People saw the star power of Crosby and Malkin and just assumed that they were starting a big run of cups.
09: Wings over Pens. The Wings proved how good they were the year before, and had added Hossa, while the Pens had lost him. The common wisdom was that the Pens got worse and the Wings got better, so the Wings would probably win again.
10: Hawks over Flyers. C'mon. The Flyers were a Cinderella that everyone expected would get crushed. The Hawks were a #2, and were stellar at every aspect of the game.
11: Van over Boston. The Canucks won the President's trophy and looked like the class of the league.
12: Kings over Devils, though no one was really sure. Both were low seeds, but the Kings had played much better in the playoffs to that point.
13: Blackhawks over Boston. The Hawks had been creaming everyone all season, so why not in the final?

Prior to the season, I predicted that the coach trade would provide exactly what each team needed in that department, and Torts is known for that. The Canucks needed an edge and some work ethic, and the Rangers needed more emphasis on skill play, and Vigneault's experience with the Canucks could bring that.

I was half right.

Anyway, I'm rooting for the Rangers. I love St. Louis, and Lunqvist needs a cup. Wouldn't mind seeing Marc win one either.

Red came up on the wheel 5 times in a row, so I'll bet it all on red. (Not that that's what you're saying, as you didn't claim these past results indicated anything)

Kings -160
Rangers +140

If you think the Kings are a lock, you should bet a lot of money on it.

Pros and cons for both teams (fanbases, players, style) equal out, but Eastern Conference tips the scales to NYR for me.

Go Kings Go!

I'd love to have Drew Doughty on the Canes.

I have a feeling that the Rangers will do better than most seem to think. the Kings may have some trouble with their speed and if the top guys play well, along with Lundquist, the Rangers have a pretty good shot at the cup. if I had to put real money down I'd probably have to go with the Kings but the Rangers can pull it off too. I doubt Sutter and the Kings are going to be taking them lightly.
