The Business of HockeyDiscuss the financial and business aspects of the NHL. Franchise sales, valuations, TV contracts, ratings, expansion, relocation, the CBA and work stoppage discussion goes here.
Moreover, presumably not all of those distributed tickets were even used, which means those people weren't even at the arena buying beer or merch, etc.
The number the other guy gave said 50,000 LESS [1220 per game less]. So the team may well have given 5 times that or just 4 times that this past season. Who knows for sure?
That's the point...... nobody knows. But it didn't stop all the drive by posts about attendance and freebies, did it?
What we DO know is attendance is up a little.... and comps are way down. I seriously doubt it's going to translate into a profit. But at least it's headed in the right direction.
Last year..... and possibly when Doug Moss was running things before that.
Some people on this board thought the number was at least five times that.

The only real numbers we know are the (now dated) numbers leaked to the Globe & Mail in 2007.
'05-'06: 3425 per game avg - 2nd in the League
'06-'07: 1580 per game avg - 11th in the League
That Scruggs is unaware of the facts when dealing with escrowed funds isnt surprising as how many people in life ever deal with matters like that?. It doesnt make her a "Rube", it just illustrates once again how badly served shes been.
I hope your entire post was satire. I'm not good at judging that sort of thing.

Well anybody that has bought a house or condo knows their Deposit is put in escrow by the real estate agent.
Beasley should have versed the mayor and council on some worst case scenarios.
Ya. For sure. Spelled it right out. Now she' s so confused having called what clearly isnt an "Arena Management Fee" an Arena Management Fee that she feels gypped, ripped off in comparison to AWA & everywhere else. Wants her money back. Like I and others have said, too clever by half and it appears she started believing the misnomer, the lie that it was an AMF. No oversite of what the NHL spent the money on, as they voted it up, cut the cheque, kissed it goodbye on a wing & a prayer.
They don't talk. Beasley didn't look like he wanted to talk to her much either, by the time she was done.
God... Ed Beasley. My favorite "Beaslyism" is that one concerning Glendales Personnel Manager. She moves out of State about 8months before qualifying for a full pension packet so Ed retains her services anyway, working "remotely", unknown to his superiors at City Hall. I guess they kept getting voice mail, couldnt understand why no one was in the office for several months before asking him about it.
Facing budget deficits, up to their ears with the Tohonos, Westgate, Camelback, the Coyotes, demanding austerity programs from all departments, laying off staff etc, heres Fast Eddy pulling that stunt. Whats even more bizarre is the woman involved didnt want to go along with his scheme yet he convinced her to do so. Crazy. And here hes retiring at 53?.
Those would be the first two seasons (1 1/2 actually) in Glendale, correct?
Not quite. The Job opened in late 2003 - the first 'Yotes game was December 27 - so they played a bit more than a half of the '03-'04 season there before the Lockout. So, '05-'06 and '06-'07 were the first two full seasons after the Lockout.

And when he retires he gets $193,128 per year ( est. ). Not a bad gig if you can get it.

Just when we are all slagging Gary and Bill for their arena management, they book an event at jobing.com taking womens roller derby to a new level.

At this weekend's ProRollerDerby Invitational in Glendale, an Arizona all-star team will be battling for the rising sport's only cash purse and to take roller derby to a new level.
With a $5,000 first-place award and a top-tier venue at Jobing.com Arena, the tournament is poised to be the largest stage yet for Valley's all-female roller-derby league.
"To be able to come into an arena like this elevates roller derby from the underground, grungy parking-lot pickup," said Alane "Lady Lawless" Roby, co-captain of the Dames.
I'm sure the city would be delighted to have the debt off their shoulders. But from a practical standpoint, how are they going to accomplish that?
Glendale has a billion dollars in debt because they made terrible investments. In order to alleviate that debt, they need to find a buyer that is as foolish as they were. I don't think that one exists. Selling the Arena on a put option gimmick or sell/lease-back does nothing to lower the debt service obligations. In fact, these "pay day loan" type scams will likely increase city debt.
Oh, I think one exists. They just can't get financing these days
Am I missing something? Is this not the second consecutive year that the COG has had to pony up 25 million to the NHL? I may have been away from the story for a while, but I certainly remember this waltz previously danced.
Thats about what our MP's recieve huh?. And only 53. Yepp. Reward for all of those years selflessly serving the public. God Bless you Mr. Beasley.
Look what he has done. I will always hold the belief that Beasley's follies have been a large contributing factor to what the situation is today.
Quote:
He is responsible for the internal operations of the city, which consists of close to a $1 billion budget and more than 2,500 employees
Mr. Beasley provided the critical vision and leadership that has made the City of Glendale home to the NHL Phoenix Coyotes....
Mr. Beasley was responsible in transforming the city’s fiscal position during a weak economic situation to one of the strongest financial positions within the Valley and state
He has also attended the University of Missouri School of Law .....
Nearly all Glendale employees had their wages frozen the last four years, but the city's human-resources director received a nearly $14,000 bonus last year, and a nearly 8.6 percent salary increase to $151,111 this July.
A month later, Alma Carmicle began telecommuting from her new home in Mississippi, working by phone and e-mail when she isn't on a return visit to Glendale.
Carmsaid she planned to retire in August, but City Manager Ed Beasley persuaded her to keep working through the end of this year to negotiate a labor agreement with police and firefighters.

Good to see you fine folks again, by the way.
NHL has already signed the dance card twice..... they're gunning for the trifecta.
Good to see you again too, ABD.
btw.... to all the vultures circling overhead..... the Yotes just made the playoffs tonight so you got...
So how can the esteemed Mayor claim a lack of understanding in regards to the money in escrow? Should buyers remorse not reared it's head last year?
Well well well. Look what the cat dragged in. I guess the smell of the Cheese was just too much to resist huh?. Now your in for it. Better start reading. Youve got about XVIXX threads to wade through since your last visit, and aint no one gonna help you out with a Readers Digest version ABD.
