Do you honestly think what Bitz did over a couple of games is really indicative of his overall ability? Keep in mind this is a player that has never cracked .5 PPG at the AHL level.
I don't think there's a huge difference between the two players, though they bring different things to the game. Weise is a much better skater and is better with the puck on his stick off the rush. Bitz is obviously a lot more to handle with his size and is very good on the cycle.
pitseleh i just want to say that if your posts were a woman i would want to make love to her
so you think that weise should have had the opportunity to play with the twins? the same weise that's been a scratched almost every game that there was another option at forward. pretty sure that if weise deserved a shot at the first line AV would have tried him out there when everyone and their cousin was getting a shot at 3rd sedin this season.
yeah bitz is not a first liner, not even a 3rd liner this year, but he has more skill and hockey sense than weise right now, and for the forseeable future.
I would disagree with you on that claim.
Bitz is not more skilled? not even close.
Not sure if you realize Dale Weise scored 28 goals in the AHL.
Byron Bitz' best season was 27 goals in the BCHL with the Nanaimo Clippers 10 years ago.
I like Bitz too, I just don't see how you can say he is more skilled, or has more hockey sense, because I would say Weise is likely ahead in the skill department, as well as the skating...haven't watched enough of Bitz to make a claim on his hockey sense, but you dont often see Weise out there making bad hockey plays, or poor reads.
Weise gets a bad wrap for playing an extremely safe game, where he puts a premium on not making mistakes or putting himself out of position to make a big hit...he's almost too patient with the puck too (we cannot forget this is his first NHL season).

Weise probably has more upside, but Bitz's development has been hampered by injuries so he likely has room to improve also.
Not a big Weise fan. Too many games he is invisible. That is great for someone like Tanev, but not for a supposed "energy" guy.
Like I said before. He plays an extremely safe game, never taking offensive chances, or putting himself out of position for the big hit.
I like that over Bitz barely getting to the guys he's trying to hit, and having a Cody Hodgsonesque back check.
Bitz will do well against the Kings because they lack foot speed as a team, Weise will come in handy against the Detroits and Nashvilles, where speed will be needed.
I like both guys, I just feel Weise is hated on unfairly on this board. I think he has untapped offensive upside, that AV might tap into in the coming seasons.
Sorry to bring up the trade again, but when the trade was made, how many people thought Alexander Sulzer would put up as many points as Hodgson (and in 5 less games)?
Didn't see him play too often, and a 15 game sample size is kind of meaningless, but I liked what I saw from him when he was here. I hope he can establish himself as a solid NHL'er going forward.

You have to remember as well that Buffalo was decimated on the blue line... fringe players can sometimes fill in adequately in the short term but get exposed over the long run. That being said, good for Alex and hope he finds success!

Kassian has an upper body in jury and he is day to day. Looks to be the right rib area to me based on the replay.

yeah he def has some skill that i feel the coaches are not letting him use for the sake of a more conservative game, but he still needs to be much more physical, there's no reason why he can't be up there with lappy in hits
So this guy is brought in because we lack toughness and lacked an ability to respond to rough play. And how has he prevented or responded to Keith on Sedin or Brown on Sedin? Can't score. And is piss poor defensively. FFS How has he been any sort of asset to this team?

Agreed. and outside of long term potential which I DO see, my main question is:
How did he make us better for a cup run.
Trading Cody before the draft was a mistake. I will agree that he needed to be moved, and he had asked for a trade and all. But the draft would have worked well and a deep cup run would have only increased his value.
He's still a baby in terms of knowing when to pick his spots. He doesn't have the experience to play the role the Gillis expected he can fill. Maybe in 3 years. Not now. He's not an asset. And I never bought into the aspect of having Reinprecht an asset either as he's been in the AHL all year and not playing with the team. You just can't call that guy up either.
The reason Hodgson was traded for Kassian is because Kassian could "helped" now. Kinda hard when he's barely on the ice and when he is, he's not doing much.

He doesn't play at all. Our 4th line besides Malhotra just doesn't see any ice time.
I said it in the PGT and I'll say it here: I hope Zack Kassian goes into the next game with explicit instructions to destroy people at random. It would be ideal if he ran the goalie at least once too.
