HR's 2012 March Mock Draft

DRAFT NOTES:
-THE ORDER IS BASED ON MY PREDICTION OF HOW THE STANDINGS WILL TURN OUT.
-INCLUDED A COUPLE TRADES THAT I THOUGHT MADE SENSE
-ONLY WENT INTO DETAIL FOR THE 1ST 10


1. New York Islanders (From CBJ) Nail Yakupov
Columbus decides to trade down to avoid the Filatov situation from happening again and need much more help then one player. The Islanders easily pay up for the #1 pick and are really excited to add Yakupov to their forward mix.

2. Edmonton Oilers: Matthew Dumba
Tough between Dumba and Murray but they chose Dumba here.

3. Montreal Canadiens: Mikhail Grigorenko
Montreal adds the talented center who will shine in Montreal.

4. Toronto Maple Leafs (From MIN): Alex Galchenyuk
Toronto moves up to get Galchenyuk. Toronto had to do something to finally get their franchise center and to energize their upset fan base.

5. Columbus Blue Jackets (From NYI): Ryan Murray
Columbus gladly picks multi-talented Ryan Murray. Great pick here.

6. Minnesota Wild (From TOR): Filip Forsberg
Although they moved down and just missed out on Murray, Minnesota still finds themselves in a spot to pick offensive talent Forsberg and dont pass it up.

7. Carolina Hurricanes: Griffin Reinhart
Reinhart is a big and skilled d-man, just what Carolina needs.

8. Tampa Bay Lightning: Morgan Rielly
Tampa picks skilled d-man Rielly to help their D-corps.

9. Anaheim Ducks: Jacob Trouba
Trouba is a no-brainer here. Him and Fowler would be a great d-pairing in the future.

10. Winnipeg Jets: Radek Faksa
Although Winnipeg could pick D, Faksa has too much offensive potential to pass up.

11. Calgary Flames: Cody Ceci

12. Washington Capitals (From COL):Brendan Gaunce

13. Washington Capitals: Derrick Pouliot

14. Phoenix Coyotes: Zemgus Girgensons

15. Buffalo Sabres: Martin Frk

16. Dallas Stars: Sebastian Collberg

17. Ottawa Senators: Ludvig Bystrom

18. San Jose Sharks: Matt Finn

19. Florida Panthers: Olli Maatta

20. Columbus Blue Jackets (From L.A.): Teuvo Teravainen

21. Philadelphia Flyers: Colton Sissons

22. Buffalo Sabres (From NSH): Tomas Hertl

23. New Jersey Devils: Tom Wilson

I like the Sabres 2nd Pick with Hertl, cant get on board with Frk with the higher 1st, especially when Teravainen is still available

I just want to cry every time I see Galchenyuk get picked before Anaheim.

Nice pick with Trouba there. No brainer is absolutely the right term. Trouba, Fowler, Beauchemin, Sbisa, Vatanen, maybe Schultz, Clark, and Brookbank? Defense solved.

Though I could see the Jets taking Ceci or Collberg there. But Faksa would be a good fit in the Peg so can't complain.

while i agree that the CBJ and NYI will be involved in a trade in the first round i see it a little different ...

here is my speculation ... ( which may be wildly unfounded )

CBJ trades Rick Nash

NYI trades their first round pick , PA Parenteau ( after he is re signed 3 years ) and an additional prospect (s) or pick (s)

CBJ drafts Nail Yakupov first overall , Filip Forsberg with NYI pick (4th or 5th ) and selects a goalie with the LA Kings pick

this is of course if Nash permits the CBJ to trade him and especially to the NYI ...

I think Isles could trade their pick to move back

I can't imagine Isles would trade up, give up a valuable asset to get Yakupov. The Isles have good forward depth, what they really need (besides an NHL-level coach) is top-4 D men, preferably those that play on the right side, preferably NHL-ready. If the Isles pick around 4-6, I could see them trading down if they decide they want someone like Ceci and they can't bear to pick him that high. Or if someone offers a top-4 Dman as part of a trade.

The Islanders should have taken Couturier or Hamilton last year(i was saying it then)
Strome is a great player but I dont see him being an Ideal 2nd line C being tavares.
Even right now could you imagine if the Islanders had picked Hamilton with #5 and this year Murray with #5 , they would be alot closer to being contenders.

I like this mock draft a lot. Great job, is this Andrei Vasilevski a good tender haven't heard to much about him. Can he take a #1 role in the near feature? We desperately need a goalie. As Crawford and emery arnet really working.

He is really good but he will be the 3rd goalie taken after Dansk and Subban I think. All three has 1 upside, the only issue is the russian factor

Not bad but I don't see the isles making a trade for the 1st pick. The isles are all about getting ready for their next building so either they pick Murray or trade down. They are looking at 2 years from now so I don't believe they will be interested in giving up a lot for Nash either. Just my .02.

I feel Montreal trades for another first round pick, and they use that pick on Subban, this would make P.K. happier IMO.

No way Columbus trades a clear cut #1. Can't see Toronto taking the Russian kid at that spot. I think Dumba will move up. Forsberg and Frk will move down. Interesting Mock though.

Actually, he was born in Minnesota or Wisconsin, he's American and has played for them at the Ivan Hlinka tourney.So yeah he'll probably pick him then..right?? Has an accent but it's probably because he speaks Russian at home.
