Does this mean Kane is signing here once his contract is up?!

All about money management -- it means he'd have a 5 or 6 million dollar home in another location. Or he's trying to show up Kaleta again.

This house is almost 10% of his contracts worth and that's not even counting agent fees or taxes... Just seems like a lot of money if he wasnt planning on using it year round... Maybe there is more to it we don't know.

Meh he can afford it. He's gonna make a lot more money before his career is over, but I agree it's a **** ton of money.

edit: this is one of the things I really like about Kane though. He's proud to be from Buffalo. Now they just got to find a way to sign him after the 2014-2015 season.

It's a nice house in a nice area. I love that area of Hamburg.

Manning owns a home in Miami.... chose to go elsewhere when he was a free agent.

Kane buying a home here means nothing.

I don't want him anyways, so I hope it means nothing.

The five-bedroom, 3.5-bath home is on 2.74 acres at 5358 Old Lakeshore Road, on the shore of Lake Erie near Route 5. The 5,878-square-foot, two-story Colonial home was built in 2006. "This is not like the starter home. This is it, a lifetime house," Flavin said.

"The market definitely is improving, and this substantiates it. It's definitely great," said Flavin, who has also had "lots" of local people, including Kane and Sabres owner Terry Pegula, look at a $2.4 million home for sale in Wales. "That says a lot for our economy. The local people really seem to be coughing it up, which I'm loving."
All this means is that Kaner will be on a version of this ad in 20 years:

That house was sold for 650k in 2005 or 2006. Why 2.6 million? 50 diamond-encrusted toilets / bathtubs that were installed?

That commercial kinda bugs me. None of those players live in Buffalo, they live in the much nicer suburbs etc that are miles away from Buffalo.

It should be "I live within a 50-mile radius of Buffalo, but I probably wouldn't live too close if I could help it".

EDIT: Or a simple "I live in Western New York" would probably be more appropriate.

That was for the land only. The house was built new in 06

Meh, isn't Roy's lakehouse worth like $4mil? He's only there in the summers too. I would imagine a lot of players have million dollar summer homes.

Pretty sure nobody thinks he'll be playing here because of this.

He'll probably let his parents and cousins use it during the season too.

Kid's from SoBo, he probably has 372 family members living within a 15-minute drive

No clue.

I just did a search for really expensive places in Chautauqua County (I grew up in Jamestown) and that popped up.

I love log homes in the woods.

I showed it to my coworker. His words:

"That's not a house. That's a camp."

Pretty much.

And forget horses. I'd turn that stable into a sweet garage gym.

Actually, that residence was built by a former U.S. Senator from NY. back in the late 70's/early to mid 80's.

I'm sure Eklund will latch onto the real estate angle as a basis for future fairytales on his blog.

From a real estate perspective, it's a terrible buy.
