Such a gongshow. Even the average HF Oil poster knew about that rule. A few of us were even wondering how they could have recalled MPS before the epic fail was publicized.
This has to be one of the most inexcusable moves by a GM in a long long time. How does the "leader" of this organization not know this relatively simple rule? I am an Oiler fan down here in the states (Wisconsin). I stream every game I possibly can, and for some reason, continue to support my childhood team well into adulthood (35 now). It's moments like these I wonder why. I cannot imagine how the people of Edmonton feel right now. Maybe slight joy knowing Tambo might have slit his wrist a little? Or is Tambo pretty much bullet proof at this point? Poor PRV, I was actually excited to watch him play with Ebs and Nuge tonight on a crappy stream on my laptop....Oh well, always next year I suppose...
I knew people were going to be ripping on Tambo for this haha.
Management obviously knows about the rule. They have been in contact with the league for days and were under the impression that their situation was okay. Turns out it wasn't.

To be fair, if it's such a well known rule that even the 'average' HF Oil poster knows of then why was there not a single person (including myself) in this thread that brought up the paper transaction that would've made this call-up nonsensical? Everyone was like "Oh yeah, this must be the 4th and final callup they can do".

Its not our job to know, but your point is noted and correct.
I didnt notice anyone saying something prior.
If these guys cant even figure out the rules of the cba seven years into it........... I dont know man, Daryl Katz please save us from these buffoons. Friends or not, surely you cant be content surrounding yourself with such incompetence.

I dont get paid to know. No one on this forum does. I do get paid to do my job without making my company look incompetent every month, else I wouldn't have one.
Tambo is very lucky that Katz doesnt seem to care how bad this franchise looks to those on the outside.

In the end, the questioning here did not come to the proper conclusion but the suspicion was there. The Oilers should have been asking this question and then having someone...oh I dunno...actually find out whether he was eligible or not.

This management team is an absolute joke. Given his mishandling, MP will be another one who is begging to get out sooner rather than later.

IMO the only defense Tambellini could have is if they knew full well about the paper transaction, contacted someone at the NHL head office to get clarification on whether or not it counted as a "callup", was told that it didn't so they went ahead with bringing MPS up...only to get a message from the NHL after the fact that amounted to "LOL J/K!!".
To me that sounds like a more likely scenario, but then my wife always said that I was forgiving to a fault sometimes.

Whether you're paid to know or not is frankly irrelevant to my point. I'm surprised I actually have to point that out.
What is relevant is that poster's assertion that "average Joe" HFOil poster were wondering why the Oilers were trying to do a 5th callup. To me, that was a false point to make. That's all I was saying.

I kind of see that as well...
my guess is Lombardi called them on it
03/24/2012 Chris VandeVelde - Called up from minor - from Oklahoma City-AHL
03/19/2012 Tyler Bunz - Signed - Three-year contract
03/14/2012 Teemu Hartikainen - Called up from minor - from Oklahoma City-AHL
03/05/2012 Linus Omark - Called up from minor - from Oklahoma City-AHL
03/02/2012 Magnus Paajarvi - Sent to minors - Oklahoma City-AHL
03/01/2012 Yann Danis - Sent to minors - Oklahoma City-AHL
02/27/2012 Nick Schultz - Traded - for Tom Gilbert

They should know. There should be no need to call anyone about clarification. Clearly they dont have the personnel to handle their own **** when it comes to the cba. Its a disgrace. That is Rick Olczyk's area.
He shouldnt be coming to work tomorrow for starters. Its pretty clear he cant handle his own area worth a stuff.
From Brule to this, its pretty clear he isnt competent. Better replace him before he really costs us.
There is no good reason for any of them to stick around other than Stu tbh.

Ic, guess I could have read the post your were replying too...
Anyone doubt that MPS is a pretty annoyed prospect right about now? Travel all day, for nothing, to travel all the way back.. misses the game for OKC too.
Clearly, they were expecting to trade MPS (to LA?) at the TD. So they kept him up until the last second and thought the transaction would not count if it was made on TD.
But the transaction didn't get recorded until the next OKC game on the 2nd...meaning it counted as a transaction since the deadline.
Maybe they told the head office that MPS was sent down on the 27th and they said "OK" but MPS was technically sent down on the 2nd...so it gets nixed.
