At 16 maybe, not at 18.

How are John McFarland and Angelo Esposito doing? Two Canadians with similar hype at age 16.

Doesn't McFarland have character flaws that made him drop?

Why do you think Kabanov fell?

My point is that just because some Russians didn't work out we shouldnt paint Yakupov with the same brush.

Its bigotted and we could do the same by looking at busts from every country

Everyone likes to poke at Leaf fans but the fact that Boston fans think this is even remotely possible is ridiculous. Even Scott Howson isn't stupid enough to give up a potential franchise player for Tuuka Rask. Imagine how many stick Tuuka Rask would break over the crossbar in Columbus.

No he doesn't have character flaws. He was drafted as a sniper and never scored in the OHL.

Wow -- how insightful. But hey Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Spezza, Stamkos are doing just fine -- more than a few prospects with similar hype at 16.

Goalies get painted with that brush.

Jack Johnson for the 1st time in his career became a "plus" player just now, playing with ECHL defensive partner in front of the ESCL goalie. Next year the Jackets are gonna have much better defense cause for now 4 of their top-6 d-men are done for the year for a wile. You know how bad Brett Lebda is? Next to Aaron Johnson he looks like a Norris candidate. And they both play top-4 role right now! When the Jackets had healthy Wizniewski and Tyutin they went on the 4 games winning streak. Last year I was agreeing that the jackets defense was one of the worst in the NHL, but next season is a totally different story.
If they add a true #1 goalie they gonna have pretty decent team defense. And they pretty deep in prospects department - tonight his NHL debut made another rookie Dalton Prout and in front of the ECHL goalie he finished +1.
So for Rask Columbus could be a pretty nice place for fresh start. But even Howson won't pay 1 overall for any goalie.

He's an rfa this year and he understands what's happening with the team. I don't know too many players that don't like playing for the defending cup champions no matter how limited the role may be. He knows he's got the starting job in the not too distant future.

Broken bones tend to make it hard for a goalie to play. Nice try though

It would take more than Rask to get the 1st over all, thing Rask, Hamilton and BOS 1st.

Are either of them gonna be in the NHL next year? Goalies take much longer than players to get to the show. Not really a position you want to be rushing a player.

I am not a Blue Jackets fan but just because they had bad luck with filatov does not mean they would completely excuse the idea of just picking Yakupov.

Who's CLB?

No thanks. We have to replace Nash. No disrespect to Rask he is an awesome goalie, but no thanks.

Yakupov is good, but he's also one of the least talented 1st overall picks in a decade;

2011 - RNH
2010 - Hall
2009 - Tavares
2008 - Stamkos
2007 - Kane
2006 - Johnson
2005 - Crosby
2004 - Ovechkin
2003 - MAF
2002 - Nash

I just don't think it's as bad as you think.
Yes the guy compared to Ovechkin is the one of the least talented.

Columbus is rebuilding, why do they need to rush? Nash is on his way out for all intents and purposes. Johnson is on a long contract, Johansen is still young, really the only person not benefitting is Vinny Prospal.

Tim Thomas's NTC is up July 1st, I could see Columbus trading a high second for him. Don't see them trading for Rask though!

Thoughts? I understand if Bruins fans wouldnt want Nash as well haha.
from my point of view it's not half-bad, certainly an interesting proposal. it's essentially yakupov+nash <---> seguin+rask+1st.

CBJ should ask for a bit more but it's a good starting point i think. if it's yakupov for seguin, then nash is worth a bit more than rask + 1st

Depending on how Krejci performs in the post season and Horton's health i could get along with trading rask and krejci, other than that i dont see the point in trading our soon to be #1 goalie. Unless he wants out.

Don't kid yourself. Players care about their careers and every back up wants to start and wants to start NOW. The smart ones will say the right things in interviews, but they want to start.
