And why should I exclude Bartschi? He's part of our prospect pool. Him alone would make it better than the Canucks' pool.
Who on the Canucks is comparable to these players?
Ferland: 96 points in 68 games, a physical force on the ice, one of the most feared players in the WHL
Reinhart: 78 points in 61 games on one of the lower scoring teams in the WHL. Little offensive help and still puts up good numbers. One of the best skaters in the CHL.
Johnny Gaudreau: Small 41 points in 42 games for Boston College. A small, but pure skill player. Will take longer to develop him, but he has high potential.
Jensen? Schroeder? lol
Markus Granlund rookie of the year in his leauge ( Probably with some help from his brother but still he has improved)
Bill Arnold also one of the top players along with Gaudreau
Hopefully Feaster and Resibrod can really put their stamp on the Flames during this offseason. One of the more important off seasons in recent memory for the Flames, they must continue to get younger and more offensive. Some major help up front (1a/b centre) is sorely needed, as well as depth on the backend.
The only untouchables heading into the offseason should be Kiprusoff, Giordano and Glencross. Absolutely everyone else should be available for the right price. (especially Iginla)
But they're wrong. You're wrong. The Flames have better prospects than the Canucks in every position besides goaltending, and even that's debatable.
Take out Bartschi, they're still better. Add Bartschi, it's a ton better. Plus another decent prospect we will get in this next draft.
Yup I'm going to take the advice of a CP poster over THN and anyone with a pair of eyes about how dire the situation in Calgary is. This is starting to sound like Toronto 5 years ago when they were hyping any average prospect they had.
Just wait, and when the Flames miss the playoffs for the next 5 years and get some legit prospects you'll think back to now and realize how barren your prospect pool is.
The Canucks' prospect are pretty bad as well but atleast we have been a team making the playoffs consistently and trying to get to the final vs Just making it and bowing out in the first round every season.

Not really. Also what does it matter that your prospects are very slightly better than ours, we have better younger players actually making an impact in the NHL. I don't know why you want to compare to one of the ********* prospect pools in the league right now. For a team trending to the abyss you should aim higher.

Yeah. Calgary right now is honestly similar to where Edmonton was right after our cup run. We barely missed the playoffs and over-hyped prospects like Gagner, Cogliano and Nilsson. I see much of the same from Calgary right now.
Non Flames fan whose lived in Calgary for nearly 30 years who can look at situation with objective view..... blow it up. Move Iggy this summer, Kipper next calendar year, Bou after that etc...
Fire Feaster, well just move him across to the Flames new acquisition the Stampeders, he can be the Offensive Lineman nutritionist...
The Flames need a true #1 centerman. Yes it's an obvious answer to what's wrong with them but having strong depth and talent at the center position is a big key to winning in todays NHL. Where are they going to find a center? Other than selling their weak farm, they need to draft and develop one, they have a very strong winger prospect in Baertschi and they cannot let him become a lost winger.
Flames shouldn't be comparing their prospect pool to the Canucks. Vancouver has a younger core and better young players making an impact currently. They are a Stanley Cup contender while the Flames are a dark horse 8th place contender. The fact that their young talent and prospect pool are worse than the other non-playoff teams should be a concern.

This is the first time in quite a while that the flames have some good prospects coming up. What makes flames fan even more proud is that the majority of them were taken in the later rounds. Sven Bartschi, Michael Ferland, Max Reinhart, Bill Arnold, Johnny Gaudreau, John Ramage, Greg Nemisz and Leland Irving are all making solid impacts at the leagues they are currently in and almost all of them project to be NHL players.
The Flames havent made the playoffs in a few seasons now and have never been known as a team for developing prospects. So now that we actually do have some good prospects that are ready to make an impact in the next few years, it takes some of the disappointment away from the main team.

2 years ago, our prospect pool was barren, had nothing. Somehow we have been able to finally start loading up on NHL level prospects, even though we didn't even have a draft pick in the first 2 rounds 2 seasons ago. Our prospect pool is still a lot smaller than most others, that's why it still gets rated so low compared to other teams. Any team has a multitude of prospects that still have a chance that are 21-25 years old. The Flames on the other hand do not.
What we do have is a growing prospect base from the past 2 drafts that has been more impressive than any the Flames have had since probably when we drafted Cory Stillman.
We have a bona fide blue chip prospect in Baertschi, a future Langkow type player in Reinhart, and a player that is looking eerily similar to Jamie Benn in Michael Ferland. On top of that we have a incredibly highly skilled Fin in Granlund, probably the most skilled player not in a professional league in Gaudreau, and one of the top USA players in the world juniors this season with Bill Arnold.
On defence we have at least 3 defensive prospects that will see NHL time in the future drafted in the past 3 drafts. Joey Leach is one of the best Defensemen in the Western Conference of the WHL, Tyler Wotherspoon is looking like one of the steals of the draft, he just impresses so much every time I see him. Those 2 were drafted in the last 2 drafts, then we have University of Wisconsin Captain John Ramage, who I hope to hell decides to not stay for a senior year, because he could already be a force in the NHL with his size, speed and leadership ability.
So there you have it. In 2 years we've stocked our prospect cupboard with NHL potential prospects of every ilk you can have. Another strong draft this summer and our prospect pool will be looking really strong. None of those forward are overagers, as it's been implied earlier. Both Ferland and Reinhart were late cuts to Team Canada this year, and both would have fit just fine on the roster.
To be honest out of all the players, I'm actually most excited about Gaudreau. He has stepped up his game so much this season, his vision on the ice, and ability to not get hit is the best I've ever seen from a Flames prospect. I really believe he has the tools to be one of the best players in the league in 10 years. I don't care about his size, if you can't hit him, who cares if he's 5'6''.

That's a very average prospect group in the eyes of the majority of people who analyze Hockey Prospects. You might want to look around the league at what other team's prospects are doing and what their cores and ask how you see it as likely that the Flames are going to pass all those teams up.
I think they're in for a rough go for the next few years. Maybe they should try a Florida. Just trade everyone for draft picks and then sign every available free agent you can.
