If he was a lock to come over you mean? Adding Weis would be huge for the Petes.

If things work out the way they want in the next couple of years, London and Kitchener had pretty good drafts. As well as Kingston adding players to their already young roster. Exciting day and congratulations to all who got drafted! To those who didn't, it's no sweat. Hard-work, dedication and your ability will get you somewhere. Hockey is about fun so go out and enjoy the GAME.

What are everyone's opinions of Erie's two third rounders Hayden Hodgson and towering d-man Riley Robertson? I did not see either of them play this year but are they good prospects?

The talk on the street is that Ryan will be in the USNDTP for one year then will be donning the Ranger jersey.

Didnt know Weis has a commitment to Ohio State in 2014. That ruins any chance of him coming to Peterborough.

Hodgson was Sun County's best player. Also an exceptional baseball player - one of the best left-handed pitchers in Ontario. If he chooses to go the hockey route, Erie may have grabbed themselves a steal.

Wow, all this knowledge base and it turns out you guys can't pick your nose! I read all the posts regarding the 1st 3 rounds and other than the marlies and rebels no one was getting drafted high! How obtuse
and wrong you were...Eh!?

Draft recap and to hopefully answer some of the questions from previous posters.

Well I have had diffent views on talent then mapleleaf979 has but I have to side with him on the Walsh pick. Walsh plays his heart out and if he was a 6' dman then this pick could be justified. Missy wasted a 2nd round selection when they could have got him in the 4th-6th round. I thought Walsh was maybe going the school route?? He might be wearing a St Mikes jersey but in what league!!

First my view on the draft overall. Once again it shows that parents do not need to put their kids on all the top teams just to be drafted. A kid like Cramarossa played a two-way game and didn't get to flash his offencebe hiis stock fell. He is an awkward skater but is actually very fast. A kid like E. Smith got featured ice time and was picked in a nice spot. Salituro first round go to go guy........whitby wildcats, 7-8 kids picked on a very average team; well done boys! As for whitby tho, I really hope they prove me wrong and cheers to hometown hockey.... but Cummins and McIntyre both went too high imo. Diperna, spinozzi, Brown, Garcia, Sandivo, a few D that may have more ceiling then Cummins. McIntyre, he could be compared to Miller on the rebels.

Maguire may be a little early but the petes didn't have a 3rd so the obviously wanted their guy in the 25th spot. You will get solid two-way play. He shoots L; if you were happy with the play of Nosad this year, expect the same from Maguire.

Gthl

This was a exceptional year for the G, however, next year 97's will prove the OMHA is just as strong!

Luke Gazzola was Kitchener's top forward, arguably their best player. Will need a year of Junior A or B before he's ready to make a legitimate run at playing in the OHL.

Bourne is a first rounder but not at 11 imo and won't do much next year, just like Tesky did nothing this year. Walsha nd McIntyre, both picked too early......Berton is a solid steady player but needs a year to develop further. Clark will play physical for his size and has good hands. If he puts his mind to it, he could regain his dominance he had as a younger player. He is also brothers with Emerson Clark on the gens who can throw them!.....Carty could be promissing. He outplayed Herbst in the playoffs and if it wasn't for the name on the back of the jersey, he may have started in the ohl cup......DiThomaso, I like this kid. He plays tough and is responsible. You will get an honest game from him......Burrows is an energy guy......McCabe saw more rubber then the 401........Zanussi like mccabe saw a lot of pucks. I like this kid and he could be a project that turns out!!.........Dunsbier, picked in the 14th round for a reason

Heres the funny thing as I see it.. Some players on the less skilled teams make the same plays as Ho-Sang and MacDavid, however, the recipients are not skilled enough to finish! Therefore, you have guys that are excellent play makers not rising to the top! I have played and watched hockey all of my life ( over 40 years) and it amazes me some of these scouts can't see this!?

Wondering how this works.. If a player is drafted and does not want to play OHL, what are his options? And if a player opts out of the draft, why? does he have a verbal commitment to a NCAA team? or is he just keeping his options - what are they? open! Any opions would be appreciated..Thanks Guys

Solid everywhere. Heavy shot, good on the puck. Can play physical and never played with a true top player. Was playing A hockey in his hometown Cobourg for M.Bantam then played on an average team for Bantam and MM. He will develop with coaching and talent over the next few years. He is one of those kids if he was on the marlies or rebels he would rack up the number and be known more

Did Erie do everything they could have to build a team around McDavid?? If they can ever get Larkin to play that's a steal but not sure with what they did. C'mon sherry!!

If he doesn't report, he remains property of the team unless they trade him. You have to go thru the draft for the first 2 years of jr eligibility before you become a free agent

Thanks for your insight Gensfan! Very jealous of your draft by the way! Liked Manchurek and McDade alot. Well done.

thats not true at all. verbal commitments are nothing to take too seriously. as I said, when you draft an overager in a pretty high round like Peterborough did, you have to believe that he will be coming on board this season or next.

just because a player "intends" to go to college dont take that as he wont show up in the OHL. he has to do whats best for him and by getting a verbal commitment from Ohio State to play hockey is the most sensible thing for him to have done. now he has drawn solid OHL interest, the ball is in his court with no one stopping him.

Wasnt that high, if I recall it was after the 10th. But regardless you make a good point. I am hopefull he shows up next season or the year after. Would probably be best for him in his NHL draft year.

NP. Yes the gens did well. I was hoping for Middleton or Diperna to address the lack of D but I agree in taking the best player on the board sometimes and Dal Colle could turn out to be a Boone Jenner as they both had a skating knock and i believe it can be corrected. McDade was a solid pick.
You guys are gonna be good next year and really good in two years! Kingston had the best draft in the east and Barrie did ok as well. Missy must have been throwing darts and Ottawa, just like they always do; they draft solid! Dulong, Wain, Groulx, with those late picks, they just keep restocking the cupboard
