Just read this as part of Daters article. Interesting and I kind of agree.

Teams are inconsistent because they don't have enough experience, in my opinion. I have been speaking with some Avs insiders lately, and one of the things they will REALLY stress hard next season is to not get too self-satisfied after wins and goals. "Act like you've been there before" will be a major theme for next season.

Avs people thought there have been too many times this season when the team got too self-satisfied after wins or a few wins in a row. It's been a problem for a few years now. No more sentences like "this was a HUGE win" by players after a win in November will be tolerated by management types.

Act like you've been there before. Celebrate after winning a Stanley Cup or a conference title, but knock off the thought that you've actually won anything before then.

Well. Could be 15 years if he started early. Which is almost your entire hockey watching history

He seems pretty undervalued for what he does for Calgary as well.

Like I said, I want him to succeed but basing everything on his previous years and not acknowledging this season is not the right thing to do.
and basing everything off this season is not the right thing to do either...

and his play is not going to stop developing. no coach, not even Sacco, is dumb enough to bench Duchene for long. because yes, that would hurt his development.

i don't find his struggles this year
that alarming. but then again i judge Duchene off who he is, not who Sakic is. if Duchene continued this type of play through all of next season, then ya that would be alarming. won't happen though.

How quickly people forget. Duchene was actually lauded as a rookie for his two-way play. I'm not saying he's O'Reilly, but when he's healthy his speed alone makes him a good backchecker. He's also had a positive giveaway/takeaway ratio every year he's been in the league. Not too shabby for a young kid who is paid to put up offense.

The guy flat out said he came back early to play in pain to help the team anyway he could. He also tweaked the injury in his 1st or 2nd game back. If the coaches thought he'd be useless they wouldn't have allowed him back, but perhaps that's why he's playing limited minutes right now? Do you actually forget what a healthy Duchene looks like because nothing we are seeing now resembles that.

You're right. Geez, it feels like he is Brodeur's age.
