On this day one year ago today, Stephen Brundt of the Globe and Mail published an online article that gave the first real clue, albeit unofficially, that the Jets are coming back to Winnipeg. I was waiting for this news to happen for 15 years. Celebrations spontaneously broke out at Portage and Main and the twitter feed was spinning like crazy. I was in my apartment in Montreal celebrating the news. The official announcement came weeks after but it was anticlimatic compared to this night
That was just part of great Ride we were on our return...
Me and all my buddies would msg each other any time we heard any rumor no matter what it was. One rumor this I remember was I heard that KUB Bread that I live next too who supplies buns for the hot dogs tripled their order for the next year and it was just funny any little tidbit of news was great.
Got my season tickets few weeks later went too every game so its safe too say this has been the Best Year of my life!!
As a Montrealer, I was thrilled for you guys that you finally got your team back. I'm not a Canadian nationalist who believes our country owns the game, I love seeing US franchises succeed, but there was something very special about Winnipeg's fan base. The game is in your blood. You guys shut up the doubters and buried any doubt about the Jets future by selling out the arena for... was it five years? Amazing!
Happy Birthday to a great team and an even greater fan base -- the only one that can out-scream us Habs fans!
