Wasn't that the situation this year too? I thought he looked pretty comfortable out there.

Ugh. IceCaps score on the PP (Cormier - pocketed a nice little goal), but followed up 1:47 later with a goal by the Crunch. Nice response by Syracuse.

So a guy in that position may not feel he has the opportunity to get called up because the organization would rather have him in the AHL over losing him for nothing.

I could just see a scenario where a guy in that spot would respectfully ask the organization for a shot somewhere if he wasn't going to get it here.
He has to clear waivers to go down to St. John's at the start of the year.

If he clears and re-assigned to St. John's it would depend on his next contract (Kulda is RFA) whether he is subject to re-entry waivers. If he makes more than 110K in the AHL he is subject to re-entry waivers. Basically if it's two-way he wouldn't be, if it was one-way, which is doubtful, he would be eligible for re-entry waivers.

If he clears waivers, is re-assigned to St. John's and subsequently recalled, he is waiver exempt for 30 days on NHL roster or 10 games played in the NHL, which ever comes first. This is why I so upset with the stupid way the Jets handled Kulda this year, they placed him on waivers in December in his 32nd day after his recall when they hadn't played in 4 days. Plain stupid.

Great finish by Trotter on a rebound - PP goal puts the IceCaps up 3-1 mid-way through the 2nd.

EDIT: you watching Hammer? Thoughts? IceCaps look pretty good tonight, IMHO.

I'm just excited to see Scheifele in the right colours. Started watching in the 2nd, they look pretty damn good right now.

Doesn't seem like it. He did well even at the NHL level. If we ever lose Slater to free agency or a trade, I think Cormier is a pretty solid replacement.

They weren't rolling that line very much, I haven't seen ice-time numbers but it seemed very much the Machacek-Cormier show for forward ice-time. Nothing really stood out, but he seemed confident when he did have the puck.

Brian Rogers, IceCaps radio PxP guy, sounded quite impressed with the Klingberg/Scheifele combination. Marco Rosa was out there with them.

Cool -- he may have seen some shifts I missed. I thought they were moving well, but at least while I was watching that line just didn't have too much going on, in a good or bad way.

captain Kendall McFaull out of the MJ line up because of an emergency appendectomy. Big loss for the home side. Goalie change too.
Poor guy..

What's the recovery time like for one of those?

Scheifele looked much quicker then I thought he would,He had a couple decent shifts he did not look out of place at all,I could be wrong but it looked like he did really well in the circle most of the night.I think he will only get better the more comfortable he gets he is the type of player who needs to be able to work well with his linemates to be effective.

Does it really matter what his contract is? I thought because of years since he was drafted and games played that he had no waiver exemption left no matter what.

I was under the impression that RFA/UFA status and 1 way/2way contract status didn't factor in.
