Nino is a player who isn't great at setting up his own opportunities from what I've seen. He's at his best when he plays with someone who sets him up. Asking him to produce with over the hill offensive black holes turns him into one.

Is he really an NHLer at this point? Probably not. Wasn't good enough to make he top 9 and had no reason to be on the 4th. But...when you're promised a spot...

I haven't seen him a great deal this year, but I think he has the skill. He needs to get faster and stronger. Probably also needs to get his head back on after this year. A stint in the AHL where he'll get top 6 minutes probably needs to happen IMO unless he comes into training camp much better after a full off-season of skating lessons.

He had a KHL contract. with no transfer agreement, the Islanders were not allowed to sign petrov. His KHL contract ends sometime in may. Look for the Islanders to sign him sometime soon after that.

Thing I don't get why can the KHL sign NHL players(Radoluv) who are still under contract, but the NHL can't do the same

The health of his mother may come into play still.

For some players (El Nino is one of them), the lockout is the best things that could happen!

He looked great in Bridgeport. Really showed some power-forward type moves. This is going to be great for his confidence/development. He's playing on the top line on a Calder Cup contender (linemates are Casey Cizikas and Colin McDonald).

Couldn't agree more. The Isles benefit big time from this lockout, although Nino is right back in the NHL when this mess is cleared up. I don't agree with it, but he will be.

It was either the NHL or WHL last year for Nino. I will say I do think Nino is one of those players that the rule you can't send players to the AHL who have junior eligibility negatively effects

Nino's skating was not up to par and he was playing on the damn FOURTH line last year......
He is a skill guy that needs to play wilth skilled players.

He even put up Numbers in BPORT last year.

He seemed to work on his skating and that wi;; pay off big imo

I don't think Beach was as offensively gifted as Nino
Beach is an agitator but he was a gifted scorer actually their numbers weren't far off all of that with Beach averaging a ton of penalty minutes: his last season he had like 56 goals in the OHL in under 70 games played-

In Beach's first pro season(AHL), he drew criticism for lazy, disinterested play. I don't
know what line he played on.

In Nino's first pro season(NHL), he was awful, clearly not ready to play at that level and should have been demoted, instead of losing confidence with 4th line mins.

I'm missing the major similarities(sp)

He should have spent another year in the WHL then down to the AHL.

What? No he won't. The line up going into this year (if there's a season):

Moulson-Tavares-Boyes
Bailey-Nielsen-Okposo
Ullstrom-Cizikas-Grabner
Martin-Reasoner-Joensuu/Boulton

Do you see Nino there?

The guy was rushed to the NHL to fast. I think a full season in the AHL (Even if the NHL does play this season) could do wonders for Nino's career.

Nino is in his second year removed from Junior Hockey, he had a major groin injury last year in training camp and then came back to play fourth line minutes and then got a concussion. This year he looks very good in his AHL games, to say he hasn't lived up to draft position is absurd, he hasn't been able to prove that. Beach himself was set back by injury in his second year, but wasn't that all impressive in his first year of the AHL anyway.

Good to see him producing in the AHL. This kid needs a year of top 6 minutes in the AHL and it looks like he'll get that. This will really save his development and get him back on track.

Beach followed a weak training , with a bad AHL season, drawing criticism for lazy, disinterested play and bad penalties.

Nino had a strong training camp, got injured and when he was healthy enough to play, simply was not good enough for the NHL at 19. The isles should have sent him back to Portland when they saw him struggling in the NHL.
