How was the event run and was Jeff VBK in attendance?
I hope U2Devs had a good time with my tix since I could not attend.
I enjoyed the event. The best part by far though was the personalized auto I got Clarkson to sign for a friend. Made a bet with a friend in October that if Clarkson scored 35 goals (regular season + playoffs) that he would buy a Clarkson jersey. He's been sweating it out for a while now obviously.
Here's the result of today:
In case it's not totally clear, it says "To Kevin, You mad"
Clarkson was a little confused about the message, but it worked out. My friend loves it.

From where I was sitting it looked like DeBoer and some of the other coaches were laughing at that too.
Clarkson seems like a really nice guy. Haven't met any newer Devils players. Just Marty, Elias, and Sykora out of the guys on this team now. This was too long ago. Clarkson always slaps hands with the fans on the way in the locker room. I like that.
I wonder if there was a disturbance or anything with Booker's presser out front right around the time this was going on.

Clarkson is really good with the fans. He'll take pictures with any/everyone at these events. Sign whatever, stop and talk to the people, etc. His line moves really slow in these situations, but its better off that he is really taking the time to interact with the fans than just brushing through them without acknowledging them.
It tells you a tremendous amount of how his game is viewed by his peers though.
This board had him as MVP last year also and Elias walked away with it.
Maybe. This organisation has always valued two way play above offensive firepower, and everybody knows that. This mentality is surely ingrained in the players too, and that's one reason they voted as they did. Kovalchuk has improved his defensive play immensely, but Parise has been steadier in that regard all season.
However, for this year in particular, one ulterior motive stands out quite a bit more: they want Parise to come back.
Arguing about it makes no sense because the players are happy with each other. I'd bet that Kovy voted for Parise. He loves him and wants him to stay.
Seriously, we'll find any reason to argue on this board.
It was voted on by the players, I'm sure Kovy voted for Zach. I don't think that anyone minds who wins the team MVP award when they all vote on it and clearly all have respect for one another.
I voted for Kovalchuk here, but geez, I dont see how anyone could disagree with Parise either. I'm more glad that Salvador snagged a share of "Unsung Hero", he's having a career year.

As am I, I've always loved Sal. Had anyone predicted he'd have this type of season after missing an entire year of hockey at his age, they'd be nuts. You can tell the guy busted his ass this offseason, he looks to be in the best shape of his life.

I'll admit it, I thought it was a mistake that we dumped White instead of Sal last summer. I'm very happy to have been wrong about that.

I dont see it as mutually exclusive. I still think dumping White was a poor decision and I'd like to have that depth on the team because you often lose 1 or 2 defensemen per season to injury, and White was great last year.
Seeing how bad White has been out West, I'm not convinced we'd be a better team with him playing. Consider the logjam there would have been at the start of the season, when Larsson needed a spot and Tallinder was still playing. Someone would have been shunted out of the lineup that shouldn't have been.
I think most of us didn't care for the White move as many of us expected Sal to be done for good. We all figured dumping him would have been the easiest decision possible. Thankfully when you compare the two, Lou made the right move in the end. Hindsight is 20/20 of course.
