Two bad teams who could use help at all positions rarely make good trading partners.
They're both young teams, who both need to add experience as well as a goaltender.

CLB and TOR will not swap picks.

Leafs 2012 4th

Leaf fans, is that a deal?
my mind might be going but that was both sedins.

Van already had one high first round pick.

"McCabe was packaged with Vancouver's first round draft pick in 2000 in exchange for Chicago's first round draft pick in 1999."

IIRC again Chicago had 4th. the rest of the picks was turning 4th into 2nd.

Gardiner + 2013 1st for 4th overall by that

You are correct, please forgive my error.

Edmonton fans, would you be happy with:

To the Leafs:
Edmonton's 2012 1st assuming it's 1st or 2nd overall

To the Oilers:

Toronto 1st 2013
Schenn/Franson
Kadri

If it's Franson, sure, but I don't see the deal working out for either teams.

Agreed but I could see a situation where the Toronto 1st ends up in Columbus as part of a Nash deal....

Hell Toronto could end up with the #1 pick.

Don't trade it.

Ryan played 14 games thereafter and then went on to play for the Ducks.

Surely you are not suggesting that Kadri is as good as Ryan???

What i think he 's suggesting is the Kadri will be as good as Ryan or at least thats what the post seems to be saying by comparing AHL stats between the two.

...I'm not sure why the goaltending issue keeps coming up in CBJ trade discussions. It exists, but we can far more profitably address that in free agency, since trade values of goaltenders are all over the damn place.

That said, there's absolutely no way I'd go for the OP. I grant that there was a time that I wanted Cody Franson in union blue, but that was before we added Jack Johnson, James Wisniewski, and Nikita Nikitin. And I'm kind of cynical about Kadri.

I am not suggesting that Kadri is as good as Ryan. I am merely showing that Kadri is not a bust as some people believe he is based on only one season in the AHL. Kadri is simply Toronto's top prospect, nothing more nothing less.

To dismiss this fact shows ignorance on the part of some posters. Kadri would be a good prospect to have in any team's system at the moment and he is not just a throw away player in a deal.

As was stated before, it would be best if Columbus kept the first overall pick to move their franchise forward. However, if they decide to trade the pick due to some odd thought of not drafting another Russian player, or whatever direction they decide to take, than a trade can be had with some teams willing to make a deal.

I think that's an entirely fair assessment. However, I don't think it qualifies him as being good enough for us to contemplate trading down from #1 overall.

As previously stated elsewhere, I might consider it if trading down from #2 overall, but that doesn't appear to be of interest here for some reason. (Probably the same sorts of irrational ideas that make me willing to consider it. )

Agreed, kadri alone would not have Columbus move down multiple spots, he could be considered in a much broader package. It would be best for Columbus to just draft Yakupov and move forward, but we will see what happens.

If Toronto is at pick 3 or 4 I'd consider trading down to that pick for Schenn but nothing else really.

Really? you quote stats comparing Ryan and Kadri and then claim you arent comparing them when they arent comparable players anyway to prove that Kadri isnt a bust? Kadri is a B prospect now with high bust potential

"Bust potential" isn't the same as "a bust".

So I suppose Pittsburgh's offer to the Florida Panthers back in 2003 was garbage too? This in one of the deepest drafts in the last 10 years? Yes the first overall pick was traded and it does happen, as illustrated in 2003 on one of the best draft years to boot.

2003 NHL Entry Draft:

Florida Panthers:
3rd Overall (Nathan Horton), 55th overall (Stefan Meyer) and Mikael Samuelsson.

Pittsburgh Penguins:
1st overall (Marc-Andre Fleury) and 73rd pick (Daniel Carcillo)

Florida wanted to move back and was given 3rd overall, a second round pick, and Mikael Samuelsson to move down 2 spots. Based on historic facts on a similar trade, if Columbus really did not want to draft another Russian, then it is possible to trade down and getting one of the teams top prospect, along with a young NHL defenseman seems plausible.

The Blue Jackets can still select a top five player while gaining assets is good management. First overall does not always equate to franchise player, sometimes it’s just an all-star player nothing more.

Another example, the previous year Florida did this, which was brutal:

No. 1 (Florida to Columbus): Florida trades this pick to Columbus for first-round pick (No. 3 overall, Jay Bouwmeester) and option to switch first-round picks in 2003 on June 22, 2002.

No. 2 (Atlanta/Florida): Florida trades third-round pick (No. 82 overall, later traded) and 2003 fourth-round pick to Atlanta for Thrashers' promise not to draft Jay Bouwmeester at No. 2 overall on June 22, 2002.

No. 3 (Columbus to Florida): Columbus trades this pick and option to switch first-round picks in 2003 to Florida for first-round pick (No. 1 overall, Rick Nash) on June 22, 2002.

-
Florida basically said that if they picked #1 they were taking Bouwmeester anyway, so they swung a couple of deals to still get him at #3, but essentially the trade was.

1st overall
3rd rounder
4th rounder

for

3rd overall

The option to switch wasn't used because Florida won the lottery in 2003

first overall are very valuable, and hard to come by. You are getting a future franchise player with the 1st overall pick. I highly dough Columbus wil be trading the 1st over all.
