I'd also consider Kulikov and Markstrom but that's for another thread. If you want to trade Edler/Kesler and Schneider for the #1 pick then we can talk, but anything less than that and it makes no sense. Throwing a bunch of 2nd/3rd line forwards and 3rd pairing defenders on top of Schneider isn't going to help any either.

Yeah lets just throw away being a top team by sending Kesler/Edler PLUS Schneider for a unproven draft pick, no team is sending you a 1st line centre or #1 D man plus a #1 goalie for that pick, I wouldn't give that up for Nash and that pick.
were talking Nail Yakupov here, you're gunna have to overpay a bit.
Booth is needed in the top 6 add in Yakupov and take out Booth and we are softer again, the whole reason we got Booth here was to add grit and a power forward to the top 6, we also traded Hodgson for grit and toughness with upside, I really don't see Gillis giving up Booth Schneider Schroeder(our best and NHL ready prospect) plus a 1st, we're in no need for that much of shake up. I don't mind Schneider Schroeder 1st if we're adding anything else the most I'd do is Raymond or maybe Ballard but not a key guy in the top 6(Booth) that brings an element we need in there.
The Canucks, not the Jackets, are in a position of power here. If Columbus asks for something ridiculous, they can just politely decline, no harm done. People are making it sound as if Vancouver needs to unload Schneider. Like someone else said, Columbus doesn't have the leverage to ask for Kesler/Edler + Schneider for the 1st overall. That's insane for a highly touted but still unproven prospect.

Then there really isn't any trade to be had, I don't know how else us Columbus fans can stress that if you aren't going to give up a key guy on your team or a top 3 goalie then you aren't going to get the #1 pick. Trading Yakupov for anything less than to upgrade our team on the top end isn't going to happen. A bunch of 2nd/3rd liners and 2nd/3rd pairing defenders on top of Schneider isn't a good trade for Columbus. How many goalies do you know that have been the center piece for a trade for a #1 pick?

uhhh Columbus has the exact same leverage that the Canucks have. The Canucks have the leverage because they don't have to trade Schneider? So I guess your saying the Jackets have to trade Yakupov? Great reasoning.
Gross. Why would a team going for a cup do that deal?
Schneider and a 1st would be enough value wise IMO, but I doubt Columbus wants to do that.
you have to look to the window we have as a cup contender. IMO that window has shrunk a lot this year. The Sedins were inconsistent, Luongo has been good but not outstanding, and our Defense has looked shaky at times. At some point you have to look to the future.
I think they could get a decent goaltender without giving up the 1st overall. Markets a bit weak this year but still, there could be some names out there.
how do you see columbus improving their goaltending this summer? they will probably have a hard time adding thru UFA because of the thin goalie market and the fact it isn't the most desirable organization. if u don't see them targeting schneider, then who do u think they will be targeting?
Vancouver can do their best to entice Columbus with Schneider but, if the Jackets don't bite, teams like Toronto and Tampa could use a potential franchise goaltender.
A player like Forsberg, Dumba, or Trouba could certainly help ease Schneider's loss.
Yakupov with the Sedins or Kesler would be so damn sick that there's no way Vancouver could turn it down.
Columbus, on the other hand will see a significant improvement with Ballard in their top 4, Booth in their top 6 and a damn good starting goalie.
Vancouver fans might say they're giving up too much, but this gives them the cap space they need to sign Weber and still have more than enough cap space to sign another top 6 forward. Heck, with how much the cap is going up, they could probably sign both Parise and Sutter in the off season if they wanted.

I understand that and agree with that but you don't hurt your chances now, Booth is needed on the Canucks and we can't afford to trade him. We give up other assets Schneider, Schroeder/Rodin and a 1st is more than fair and Jackets get a lot better, if we have to we can add Raymond in there or Sauve but that's the max we could realistically afford to give up and not hurt the team now well building towards the future. That's a lot to give up.

I would be ok with Booth + Ballard + Schneider + Van 1st for Yakupov. The thought of being able to afford Weber and picking up Yakupov is salivating. It's really difficult to assess the actual value for either Yakupov or Schneider though. One has never been an NHL starter and the other is still in junior.

We lose a power forward in the top 6 and we're now softer again, the thing Gillis is improving with Booth and Kassian now here and was the biggest and only knock on us last season. Is Booth really going to be the make it part for Columbus? cause I do think it's the break it part for the Canucks because we need him in the top 6, we can't afford to get weaker and smaller for skill, we traded Hodgson for this reason. I hope Kesler Booth and Higgins make a call to Parise and we get him here if he goes to UFA a 2nd line of Parise Kesler Booth would be epic, a far off dream but maybe us having a lot of Americans and being a cup contender would be enough to get him here, we also have deep pockets and maybe cap room if it goes up 5+ mil.

If Columbus "WANTS" a top notch goaltender like Schneider, it'll simply be him and the Canucks 1st. Vancouver doesn't need the first overall pick, what they need is to build depth for the future. If Tampa Bay offers a 1st and a 2nd, same as Colorado paid for Varlomov, Gillis would be much better off accepting that!
The 8th overall and an early 2nd rounder would give the Canucks three picks in the top forty selections, thats what they need. Gillis was offered, allegedly, the 11th overall last year and turned it down. I don't see him being any different this year at all now that Schneider is much more established! People who say he's unproven are out to lunch, NHL people are saying he's got nothing left to prove to anyone. Schneider continually impresses with each game and he's played four less games than Brian Elliot who's getting consideration for the Vezina. (although Quick or Lundqvist will win) They are 1-2 in save %, Elliot and Schneider.
FYI - Tampa has two first round picks and FOUR second round picks, they are and will make an offer for Schneider that Columbus won't be able to match.
Jackets are the ones in need of Schneder and don't have a lot that is attractive to us for Schneider.
Schneider doesn't get you the #1 pick.
It'd have to be: Schneider + 1st + Top four defensive shutdown guy + 1st next year + 2nd this year and even then I seriously doubt CBJ takes it.
They don't need points from the blueline, they already have Wiz and JJ.
And seriously Schneider has yet to play an entire NHL season as a starter. He just looks good, but then again look at Reimer LAST year. Toronto fans were hailing him as a starting goaltender and the next CuJo. All Schneider has is some pretty stats from 25GP behind one of the best teams in the league. He can stay in Vancouver because no one is taking Vancouver's asking price.
Don't really see Suter as a fit for Vancouver with Edler and Hamhuis as the top 4 lefties, we really need a top pairing righty, aka Shea Weber, to play with Edler. I really hope Gillis puts a 1 year offer out there for Weber, he's the missing piece to make that D deadly, an Edler Weber pairing would be amazing, the hitting punishment they'd give the other teams would make me but adding Weber here is a pipe dream and has close to 0% chance happening this offseason.
