But we just beat dead teams like Tampa and the Hurricanes. We still don't know how good they're against good competition.
I agree.
We played a very average defensive game against the Bolts and completely shutdown the Canes yesterday but it was kind of expected since they played a hard fought game against the Jets on friday.
I to want to see what they can do against a playoff team in a best of 7 series before throwing a party. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy we won back to back games but I'm not "satisfied" just yet.
P.S. Will Larsson sit his 4th consecutive game on tuesday? I don't see why we'd change anything atm since we are playing real well, so I'd have to say yes. What does everyone think about that?

They weren't really must wins but should wins. Either way good teams get the job done against teams they should win. And a win that's a dominate/decisive win is a good sign too. Either way let's just enjoy that ride at that point

Agreed. Don't fix what's not broken. I want Larsson to play at least one more game before the playoffs though
Hopefully we've got some more noise to make in the coming months, but really gotta give some credit to Lou and Pete this season - Lou for making several moves that have greatly worked in our favor and Pete for getting this team on page with what he wants and to buy in which has been evident by all of the positive reviews coming from the players about him
This is not to sugar coat anything though as there have been lapses and such this season, but for a team coming into the season with not overly high expectations and to do what we did this season, nothing wrong with a pat on the back
I still think Lou should've bolstered our blueline. He gambled on two try outs (Bernier and Sykora) and both guys have played real well for close to league minimum and adding Carter via waivers was another solid move. The Zidlicky trade is something we all wanted, especially myself, and we'd have to be blind not to see what a blueliner who can handle the puck can do to our offense.
To me, we need another d-men ala Zidlicky on our 2nd pairing. Guys like Fayne, Larsson, Taormina, Harrold aren't bad options but they should be on the 3rd pair in the best of situations IMO.
Sometimes you have to play bad teams and if you dominate them, you did your job and did it well.
Sure, but you see, there is a it difference in those wins. The Chicago win happened because of Marty, we got badly outplayed. The wins against inferior teams like Tampa and Carolina who were both pretty mentally drained by the fact that they aren't playing for anything anymore. Those wins we're pretty much expected and automatic.
The troubling signs from the past weeks are still there. We've gotten beaten badly by good teams and and we weren't competing with the likes of Pittsburgh, Philly, Rangers.
It's one thing to rout Carolina, but it's completely different to play Philly or Pittsburgh right now.

What? Common sense on HF... get the **** out of here with that crap
I'm happy we made the playoffs, as should everyone, but I've seen this movie 5 times in a row and I've hated the ending each and every time. The regular season doesn't mean crap for me other then being a exhibition for the real season that will start on the 11th of april.
I'm glad we won both games while scoring 11 goals but to me, it just doesn't mean much. If we manage to do that in the first 2 games of the opening round, that's a entire different story and that's why I'm not jumping for joy atm.
Nobody should be complaining. Last year the Devils had a brutal season, and this team, who many predicted to miss the playoffs this year, came out the very next season and made the playoffs without their top line center. That's good enough for me, they are in and have a legitimate chance to make a run. Let them at least play a playoff game or two before you start complaining.
Be happy, and remember that this is just a game after all.
Certain posters are happy after beating two below average/mediocre teams, good for them. I was expecting a win, so maybe that's why I'm not as happy as the majority I guess.
If those games would've been played against playoffs teams, I'd be on board but they weren't. Nothing more... nothing less.

That's where I don't buy this. For some of us, the abomination of last year leading to us not making the playoffs made us appreciate getting there. Obviously there are bigger mountains to climb in the end, but this was a big step for a team with a new coach, a new core and a major chip on their shoulders. They're back and hopefully ready to do some serious damage.
This team needed to beat the **** out of some bad teams to get their confidence and swagger back. Drop another deuce on the Isles, and then that game against the Wings will be a huge test even if they have been awful lately.

It'll be a big road game test since Detroit tends to dominate more often than not at the Joe.

Just enjoy the show.
Anyone who thought we were going to be close to the bottom of the standings didn't have a solid feel of our squad. DF and I (and certain other posters I don't remember) wanted DeBoer from the get-go and knew what type of team we'd ice with him in charge.
We had the horses to be competitive and last years results were mostly caused by Lou. The IK saga ****ed up the locker room, mostly because he asked JL to waive his NTC at the start of the season and had a pissy attitude for the next 6 months, the hiring of J-Mac as our head coach was a train wreck waiting to happen (and I've said so since day #1) and we can go on and on.
The "pros" always have us either missing the post season or making them by the skin of our teeth and every year, we either finish on top of our division or we end up with a middle of the pack with a 4-5-6 seed.
We've made the post season 14 out of the 15 last years. We aren't a bottom feading team, despite what happend last year. We are like the Flyers who finished close to the bottom a couple of years ago, wich saw them draft JVR, and made some serious noise the year after.
