Definitely game 7 against the Flyers. I thought we had the better team talent wise and it was one of those series that the home game won every game. Hadfield was a disgrace watching Schulz pummel Rolfe in that game. The Flyers had just lost Barry Ashbee a few days ago in a career ending gruesome eye injury and I just had a feeling that were going to hurt one of the Rangers. That game still bothers me to this day and I would rank it as the worst game I remember watching. The only brightside was that it forced the Rangers to clean house and bring in Espo and let him lead the late 70,s team of Duguay,Greschner,Maloney,Vickers,Davidson etc. one of the most competive group of players the Rangers have ever had. That Flyer loss still stings
The Espo trade ended up destroying the Ranger's chances at a cup. We traded so much away to keep him happy in NY. Esposito is probably my least favorite Ranger ever.
1) Kenny Morrow
2) Game 4 1992 PDF -- Francis
3) Guy Lafleur's return to Montreal 1989
4) Game 5, 1994 CF -- Bernie
5) Game 4, 1997 CF -- Lindros' goal
Game 4 of 1997 ECF against the Flyers. Rangers rallied twice to tie the game in the 3rd but Lindros scored the game winner with about 7 seconds left. Frustrating and a heartbreaker to boot.
Game 3 against the Pens in 2008 was pretty frustrating too. Rangers come back from a 3-1 deficit, and then Hollweg does what he does best and takes a boarding penalty which kills all momentum and leads to Malkin scoring the GWG. I still have clue why Renney decided to scratch Prucha in favor of Hollweg. He made some questionable coaching decisions in that series.

Regarding that LaFleur video, why is it that they call Roy "Ruah" instead of "Wah"? I heard that in other games with Roy when he was with Montreal. Why did the pronunciation of his name change when he came to Colorado? It's not like they were just pronouncing it incorrectly how it's written (like the name). It sounded like some sort French pronunciation to begin with, but then they changed it to another French pronunciation.
One thing that pisses me off about that game is that I think to this day that was Hank's best game of his career. We looked overmatched in that game and then Straka scored with like 3 minutes to go and I thought, we might win this one after all. Totally wasted Hank's amazing night.
That game wasn't really frustrating, it was devastating. It's different. IF you asked me for the worst loss I've ever been through, then it's that game AINEC. But OP asked for frustrating.
In recent times, definitely game 4 against Philly in 97, game 5 against Buffalo in 07, and game 3 against Pittsburgh in 08. Throw in game 4? against washington last year, where we gave up the 3-0 lead.
last year against the caps. i was so fired up when we had the lead and the garden faithful was chanting "can you hear us." one of the best moments of my ranger fandom followed by a blown lead. that was the most deflating experience i've ever had to watch in sports.
games where we make scrubass goalies look like Dominik Hasek are pretty friggin annoying. But the most frustrating/enraging? I was at a game this year against Montreal in November. We had 10 powerplays and only scored on 2. No surprise though. Another is game 1 against the craps last year. Hank saved that puck and ovechkin started slashing the bananas outta him. no while for about 6 or 7 seconds after lundqvist covered, then ruled a goal.
08-09 first round, game 7 versus caps. Caps played like garbage and won because a fluke deflection from a Callahan block attempt and Redden screening Lundqvist.

Hey that's 20%! Much better than our season long PP conversion percentage.

I thought it was 9 PPs and we only scored 1, if you're talking about the first Montreal game. It must be good being a fan if that's the most frustrating game when we won 5-3.
How about Game 5 against Pittsburgh from a couple years ago. Drury gets highsticked WITH blood and they call nothing, but then Drury high sticks somebody a couple minutes later and they put him in the box for 4 minutes.
Surprised theres so many recent games being mentioned. I guess thats due in part to a younger fanbase on the boards and a difference in opinion regarding what "frustrating" means to them.
I cant mention Buffalo in '07 or Washington in '09 because they were better than the Rangers. It would have been surprising if they won, but (for me anyway) it wasnt frustrating when they didnt.
The most frustrating game for me was game 4 against Pittsburgh in '92. That 91-92 team was great, and with Mario out, they should have taken care of that Pittsburgh squad. Instead, that game was a comedy of errors culminating in Richter's gift to Ronnie Francis.
I was young back then, but I still remember the Pittsburgh fans hanging the "1940 FOREVER" from the rafters. That one hurt.
Also the Conference finals against the Habs in 1986. That entire series was frustrating. Roy was just a brick wall that series. We could've put 100 shots on net and he still would have shut us out.
Came to post this. Got hot during the payoffs, took out Philly and Washington, then ran into a hot rookie name Patrick Roy. That game 3@MSG ...Ugh...
I agree with Lindros in '97. It seemed like the magic of '94 was there again and when Gretzky and Leetch connected to tie the game..well..that was magical... 1997 is my favorite team all time except for '94.
In person...any game where I've paid over $100 for seats and the rangers score 0 goals. That's happened 2 out of 3 times. (once in the playoffs (thanks Jagr!!!)
oh wait! I forgot about the Messier Guarantee game.
I had to watch that classic game scrambled because we did not get Sports Channel but I had the FAN on for the audio...
I guess I should have asked my parents to get it....I probably didn't even think of it.
Game 1 in '08 against the Pens. We had a 3-0 lead but we were getting outplayed and you could see it coming, and the whole time you're praying that they wake up before they blew the lead, but they never did. 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, 4-3 Pens, slowly but surely. It was like having a knife twisted. Then to add to the frustration the idiots go and tie it only to lose 5-4 on a PP goal which happened to be a brutal call. I wanted my mommy to say the least.
I remember thinking that we were in trouble when Avery scored that 3rd goal. I don't know why I thought it, but I did.
And granted that they turned it around, but for me, games 1 and 2 against Montreal in 1996. Well, that and pretty much Luc Robitaille's entire playoff that year.
