Okay everyone, I guess since it hasn't been mentioned yet, and there's no reason to wait until the last minute this year, it's time to talk about playoff avatars. Honestly this thread should have been made the night they clinched the 8th seed, but oh well. There's still a week to come up with something and show the rest of HF we can hang when it comes to clever post-season themes.
I guess I'll put my hat in the ring as a potential mock-up creator since I just recently started a new job and I have a lot more free time during the week and weekends to help get something made. I know DoTheBlue will be interested as well as Zenith if he has the time. Wraparounds only shows up for Pittsburgh games (what a bandwagoner!
) so he probably won't be around since he is busy.
Anyone else interested in helping you can either get yourself a copy of GIMP or Photoshop, or if you're not technologically inclined, your creative and original ideas for a theme would be very much appreciated. Before anyone gets started here, I would like to make some suggestions for the mock-ups and deciding on a final design:
1. Artists doing the mock-ups, make your animations BIGGER than the 50kb limit for avatars this way people cannot steal a mock-up and use it as their avatar before it is decided as the theme we will use.
Past avatar threads have had the problem of people jumping the gun, and if we're all going to rock the same design I think it will be a good idea to be patient and wait until the final design is done before changing our avatars.
2. Do not make any requests until the final theme has been voted on.
It will clutter up the thread and possibly confuse the artists if people start calling dibs and requesting things before anything is even decided yet.
3. The final design should be decided on by a poll.
Pretty obvious and straight forward. It kinda goes with suggestion one since people won't be able to just start grabbing mock-ups of whatever they think is their favorite idea and disregarding what the majority feels like using.

Okay with all that being said, it's brainstorm time. Themes are usually based on memes that are associated with the team in general (for instance, the Rangers throw money at overrated free agents, Rangers think every FA want to play for them, Sharks are choke artists, Penguins are Bettman's team, etc...) or with memes that are created throughout the season. (A score from the side, this is a bad hockey team, etc..) However that does not always have to be the case.
Just to get things started here's an idea I just thought of while making this thread:
Since the Rangers and Rangers fans are always centered around trade rumors, especially rumors involving players who are unlikely to even be traded, I thought maybe we could do something like,
"Win the cup now, trade for (or sign) <free agent or star-player> in the offseason."
Where the free agent or star player could be anyone you like from another team, it doesn't even have to be someone who is available. We could Photoshop them in to a Rangers jersey and everything.
Anyway, just something to get the ball rolling, I hope we come up with something great. Let's go Rangers!
